Picked up my copy. It's beautiful! 🤩
Hardcover copy of The Works of Vermin by Hiron Ennes. The cover is a deep purple. In the center, forming a circle around the title, a pale gold centipede consumes its own tale. A design of pink and green vines, leaves fills the rest of the space with a flower in the upper left corner.

It's SO good. Bit slow paced at first, admittedly, but it is well worth just patiently basking in all that gorgeous prose and worldbuilding while you wait for the plot to really take off. Which it definitely does!

TODAY. 🪲🪳🐛

THE WORKS OF VERMIN comes out tomorrow (10/14). Borrow it. Buy it. Just get your hands on this book.

The way Ennes knit this plot together is nothing short of incredible. I actually gasped when I realized what was going on, and oh how my heart broke! An operatic tale on a truly fantastical stage.

Also: it's queer. Just so delightfully queer. I can't even tell you all the ways it's queer for fear of spoiling it for you. Just go read it.

God I'm so obsessed with this book. I want to rub my face on it.

That's a very put together way of saying I want to crawl into this books (admittedly fucked up) world and roll around in it.

The body horror! The horrific beauty of transformation! THE BUGS. 🐛 🪲 🦋

I'm too much of an idealist for my Governance class. I'm not naive. I know how the world actually works. But it's not the way it should work. We built a world based on might. Might of money, of arms, of influence. But just because we built it that way, doesn't make it right.

Might is not right.

Yes, bring back manliness like the 1790s
- wigs
- tights
- frills
- powder
- filler
- rouge
- hips out
- legs crossed
George Washington dancing, in tights and heels, powdered wig, frilly lace sleeves. Return of George Washington painting with washington's coat flicked back, hand on his hip like a manly man. All powdered up. Bunch of men sitting in front with their legs crossed

I always forget how much I love the Little Dorrit miniseries until I throw it on all casual for background noise and next thing I know I'm getting nothing done except watching Little Dorrit.

Don’t wanna piggyback someone’s perfectly good post with book promo, but lrp:

Might I suggest The Woods All Black, an historical Appalachian gothic set in the late ‘20s that explores gender, sexuality, and trans/queer bodily autonomy? It’s also (1) horny (2) spooky and (3) a bash-back revenge story

😂 Why can I clearly picture the cover from that description? But hey, at least you definitely knew what you were getting with that one.

Oh. Oh no. See, that unassuming ranch house is far too innocuous for Savage Thunder. What a waste.

Omg. Andrews. Now THAT'S a lot of what the fuck to hide behind an unrevealing cover.

This, by the way, is why I don't usually recommend Johanna Lindsey to readers unless I know they're familiar with the conventions of old school romances.

Cause I adore Secret Fire. Most of Lindsey's books, really. Especially Gentle Rogue. But they're... A Lot.

A lot of a lot. 😅

Omg yes. My favorite example of this is Secret Fire. The bland reissue cover will NOT prepare someone for what they'll find in that novel. What about an illustration of a weird torch-thing (?) says "abducted (twice), stuffed in a trunk, copious amounts of Spanish Fly"??

I know I use dude a lot on here and I can't emphasize how much it means literally nothing when I use it. it's like completely just a filler word for emphasis, not an address to a person haha

(I try not to use it with/at specific people bc I know not everybody joves w/it or knows that tho!!)

There’s the gender neutral “dude” and “bro” and then there’s the inconsiderate versions, and it’s all vibe based

Lindsey's books always had the most gorgeous covers. I miss the days of elaborate painted clinches with full wrap-around artwork.

My arm's already sore, though. 😅 I'm going to be one sad lil buddy tomorrow, but hey, it beats getting covid.

VAXED. 💪

You're the best, Hannaford!

I know they say you should never judge a book by its cover, but this cover 110% communicates the book’s vibes.

It is an exquisite gay gothic confection, witty and self aware.

10/10 do recommend.

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

So it took way longer than I planned to finish WE ARE ALWAYS TENDER WITH OUR DEAD because life was life-ing. BUT. It was amazing (as expected), and I can't wait for the next book because I have just so many questions about this creepy little town.

Titan Books is too good to me. 😍 How gorgeous is the cover of Eric LaRocca's new novel? I want that coffins and buildings pattern available as fabric yardage asap.

I've been looking forward to We Are Always Tender With Our Dead ever since it was announced, and I can't wait to get started!
A hardcover copy of We are always tender with our dead by Eric LaRocca. It has an orange cover with red circles and a pattern of black coffins and buildings beneath the white lettering of the title. The style of the coffins and buildings is reminiscent of wood block prints.
