javascript bard here for a good time. looking to build a better future using web technology. idiosyncratic and iconoclastic.

Born and raised in the frozen Alberta north (Fort McMurray). University of Calgary. Toronto-based since 2010.
well here's an opportunity for torontokyo -- federalize zoning then upzone the cities.

(which will never happen because all three parties supporters would be mad about living next to apartments)
Looks even worse in this framing.

this applies to any building over 31 units, one of many reasons why new apartments and condos Look Like That on the street.
I think many people following along the housing discourse know about Ontario Building Code rules preventing single stair and small elevators, but I think more Toronto YIMBYs and urbanists need to be aware of the absurd City of Toronto rules for garbage pickup that swallow the entire ground floor.

that's right gil, the only equitable solution is at minimum six floors everywhere

"jordyn that reads on arterials not everywhere"

that's right, the only equitable solution is at minimum six floors everywhere!
Toronto's projected growth: housing that is bad for equity, sustainability, fun.
NOT single family housing or gigantic towers. Better!
SAME # units in 6 floors next to each other than 50 fl each other block.

What if allow on ALL arterials 6 to 12 floors? Allow 4 in single fam. H?
Cities for PEOPLE.

We tried to invite Ontario Premier Doug Ford to our live show in Toronto on Thursday, February 5th, hosted by @cycletoronto.bsky.social, so we brought two comically large tickets to Queen's Park. Here's how it went.

Oh hey. It's me. I'm back. I wanted to talk to all the devs who took the war chest from their popular games (and YouTube careers!) and turned it into a publishing studio to find out what they're doing differently and if its working out for them.
Turns out...yeah seems like its going good!

I really hate that media layoffs have been happening for the last three years, including my own, and most of the people responsible for the mismanagement won't experience any negative consequences, especially for decimating the number of people of color in so many American newsrooms.

I used to be worried about my job security until i realized that i'm going to have so much work in the future fixing people's cruddy LLM code.
My boss vibe coded this over the weekend and now it’s my problem is going to be its own genre of developer complaints in the coming years.

Used to live 2 houses down from where that landlord is on Palmerston. As you say, rows of mansion-sized Victorians subdivided into 4-6 units. Basically all of them would have a landlord living in 1 of the units where their entire job would be to "manage the property" ie mostly just to collect rent

These people are genuinely evil. Their housing wealth comes from being so close to the subways, their neighbourhoods are shrinking and they have the truly disgusting view that Toronto is full.

And all we need to do to make them lose their minds is make six-floor apartments legal as of right.
"Maybe the city's full" says the man living in a 2.7 million dollar house on Palmerston, while sipping $170 scotch after defeating a multiplex proposal across the street.

"hey jordyn, why haven't you ever moved to the states for work when you could make so much more money???"
Last year, I was constantly worried about my TN work visa being revoked. I could also be rejected by a CBP officer any time I re-entered the US, so my immigration lawyer advised no travel. After I was laid off, I had only 60 days to find a new job or I had to physically leave the US by December 31.
I genuinely have no idea how to convey this to the American people, but I think the biggest impediment to any kind of immigration reform is that people are convinced that "legal" and "illegal" are immutable, intrinsic categories instead of a rapidly-shifting arbitrary constellation of regulations.
