They will u-turn. Everyone who wants compassion will remember that they are vile, and forget the u-turn. Everyone who wants nastiness will remember the u-turn, and say they're soft. They will alienate everyone and achieve nothing.

The worst possible path.
My guess is they will end up u-turning on the jewellery thing (you can already see it being softening in interviews) and possibly the 20 years (which is way longer than Denmark).

Spurs are benefiting from some VERY soft officiating in this last 20 minutes - there should be about 15 minutes of stoppages, but there won't - but I'm not sure Arsenal have created anything you could realistically call a big chance, so not a lot of sympathy.

I don’t know how you do this scientifically, but this is a decent start!
A few months ago, @jonnysinger.bsky.social questioned the "you play every team twice" notion and it piqued my interest.

That resulted in this: An attempt to quantify "luck" by tracking injuries, VAR errors and managerial shifts in the Premier League
Lucky or unlucky: How have Premier League teams fared this season?
Which Premier League teams have ridden their luck, and which have been unlucky over injuries, VAR and managerial changes this season?

It didn’t work, but I wonder if other Indian betters might regret not having been more positive?

Still fancy India from here, but Simon Harmer is just so good! The control and quality honed over years, the sort of bowling everyone in county cricket knows about, dominating on the world stage

Luka Modrić has played for Croatia alongside someone born in 1971 and 2007:

Born in 1971: Niko Kovač

Born in 2007: Luka Vušković

Modrić had already played for Croatia 13 times when Vušković was born.

This largely has the effect of disengaging people from competitions that are (1) worth watching and (2) rather *need* the engagement. Current – growing – level of atomisation does not serve either the fans or the sport.
funny week of football television viewing. I have the usual tv subscriptions. Quite fancied some women's CL but not enough to subscribe to Disney+, sorry. Quite fancied some men's WC qualifiers but not enough to *pay-per-view* on Amazon Prime, sorry. How many different things should we need?!

I know the nature of politics means we won’t always be led by the brightest and best. But can’t there be someone in the room with a big ‘don’t do this, this is stupid’ button that they can press occasionally?

And we knew this. This wasn't speculation. We studied it, we had the talking points. We trained volunteers to explain this to people. It's not a surprise. Rich people don't flee places with good quality of life when we increase the quality of life. They might try to cheat us, but they don't leave.
NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Right, but who are the 5% of Green voters opposed?
Net zero is one of the many areas where commentators are out-of-touch with public opinion in Britain. There is still broad support for cutting carbon emissions - except from among Reform supporters, who are the outliers.
🧵/ How far does the public support net zero?

Support: 60%
Oppose: 25%

Net support by party
Green: +81
Lib Dem: +67
Lab: +64
Con: +11
Reform: -44

I know it’s the job, I know it’s the industry, but if the same person can go from
‘Liverpool are favourites’ to
‘It’s Arsenal to lose’ to
‘City look like relentless title winners’

in 10 weeks, then it’s absolutely not worth paying them attention.

And that is almost the entire football media!

The BBC needs someone experienced enough to run a huge media org, and willing to take a job with no security. They need to know the BBC well enough to do the job, but not be an “insider”. They need to somehow be acceptable to a Lab government but also right-wing papers.

This person doesn’t exist.

Liverpool spent nearly £300m this summer building an attack to ease their reliance on Mohamed Salah.

Today Salah took three of their seven shots and assisted three more. He had over 60% of their xG. And this was a rather poor performance by him.
