I’m not one for false optimism: we’re in for some tough times. Everything won’t be OK just because we hope it will be. It will be OK if we *fight* for it to be.

Take care of yourself; watch over your neighbor; protect the vulnerable and marginalized; and never give up.
This, from @elienyc.bsky.social, is an excellent explainer on the profound implications of the FTC case that was argued yesterday.

The Supreme Court Is Poised to Give the Apprentice Star the Right to Fire the Regulators
During oral arguments, the conservative justices made clear that they intend to allow Trump to fire FTC commissioner Rebecca Slaughter—and reorder the separation of powers.

ISAAC CHOTINER: so, you've never claimed to have a task underway when you've merely opened the file?

Why is the FTC case important? Why does it matter whether Trump can fire the the heads of independent agencies like the FTC, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), and the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC)?

IT'S ABOUT CORRUPTION.

TN Voters: D+19 shift

GOP: ah well, you see 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐦𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐤. 𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐩𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧. 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮.

Hey look! It’s my district!
To give you an idea of how ridiculous the gerrymandering in Nashville is, here’s our district. They diluted a third of Nashville into a rural area about 50 times as large that extends north to the Kentucky border and about a third of the length of the state to the east.
December 3, 2025 at 2:24 AM
Yep, this is exactly right
TN07 is a story about gerrymandering: the GOP cracked Nashville into 3 districts when it redrew the 2022 map, destroying the Dem seat there.

Fast-forward: a section of Nashville, which just 5 years ago had a Dem representative, is now voting Dem by huge margins but it's been designed to not matter.
December 3, 2025 at 2:22 AM
To reiterate, we’re talking a D+19 shift in TENNESSEE, a state which Trump won by almost 30 points A YEAR AGO

(last year Trump won CD-07 by 22 points and scandal-plagued Mark Green won CD-07 by 21.5 points)
Ds don't seem to be getting what they need out of Nashville. But if the margin lands at R+3, that's a D+19 shift from 2024 -- we're not talking a wave, we're talking tsunami
again @gelliottmorris.com says behn still has a chance but damn 3 points in this district is 🦇💩

I think a narrow R win is likely here, but that would be a result that should and will spark massive panic among House Republicans and probably kill the gerrymandering push in most red states.
Behn (D) may be ahead on early votes, but signs overall still pointing to a single digit Van Epps (R) win. #TN07

Worth noting that it's not like @aftynbehn.bsky.social is anything like Joe Manchin or Kyrsten Sinema -- she's an actual progressive and WE CAN WIN AS PROGRESSIVES IN THE SOUTH. We just need more resources, sustained focus, and organizing. This is a lesson -- help us take back the South!

We have the early vote from 8 counties so far in #TN07, and the results are consistent with a big overperformance by Democrats... but as to how close the race will be, the major caveat is that the GOP tends to be stronger on Election Day votes.

TN CD-07 election returns: Secretary of State is usually the fastest, but Davidson County Election Commission may get Nashville vote reported first. No vote yet reported in Nashville (which will heavily influence the outcome).

With the deployments in LA, D.C., Portland, and Memphis, the difference between the military and law enforcement--i.e., legal authority, training, and rules of engagement--is critical. My colleagues at @protectdemocracy.org have put together an excellent guide:

Why the U.S. military is not a law enforcement organization
The military and law enforcement each serve as armed elements of the state, but have very different functions, training, and legal requirements.
