Buying books directly from indie authors is a great way to support them, their books, and put some $$$ directly in their pockets for their works. Every purchase counts.

As my indie author friends and their books come across my feed, I'll repost with their website stores and links.

No matter what you decide to write about you better love that idea and love it hard because between the first draft to final stage in the editorial process you're going to be reading it over again a gazillion times. 💀

THIS!

Please leave five star reviews for books that you love wherever you can!
"I can't afford to support my favorite author right now, I—"

Reviews.

Reviews are free AND they are a gift to authors that can keep on giving (i.e., exposure, marketing, algo boosts, etc.)

Please, give the gift of reviews to your authors this holiday season. It really can make a difference!

I really thought a tidy two-sentence summary of my novella would do the job.

Then I realize my peers out there are casually dropping multi-paragraph masterpieces.

So… back to the drawing board I go.

Richard Siken's Crush inspired me to start writing poetry, and his boyfriend's death in 1990 is what that book is all about. This was devastating to read.

My novella, On Phantom Wings, is the birding story. It's about a lot of different things: cool birds, evil cops, the diminishing of wild places, friendship, activist burnout, liberal reform vs. revolution, rad ancient megafauna, and what we would sacrifice for a better future. Read it and enjoy!
The Writhing, Verdant End is finally out! Two years back, I reached out to @tiffmorris.bsky.social and @coreyfarrenkopf.bsky.social about doing a split weird ecohorror collection, and now, on release day, I couldn't be happier with the book we created. It's dark, strange, angry, and transcendent!

Writers, especially those who write kidlit, I think we need to have a conversation about using parents not telling their child something to “protect them” and why this doesn’t really work especially today.
Does this happen? Yes. And do we see it continuing to happen? Yes.

Something I've realized as more & more places that were once open & inviting become hostile due to changing leadership is that the thing that makes them great is the people.

No matter how awful these places are, there are kind people in them, doing wonderful things, being their wonderful selves.

The most realistic scene in DS9 is when Gul Dukat whined about how the Bajorans never erected a statue in his honor. A prophetic text.

I do love a Christmas ritual , and making these Edible Christmas Tree Decorations, which are #RecipeOfTheDay – is one of them. I say edible, but when my kids were little, I cruelly mixed in a load of pepper so that they wouldn’t pull them off the tree to eat them all! www.nigella.com/recipes/edib...

"All is lost" narratives are popular because people generally do not want to take action. Taking action is tiring so if all is lost, you are off the hook. Nothing is more seductive than not having to do anything.
