Hi! Nice to meet you. I like to make stuff.

I made a library of zines, and also, some zines!

jkzinelibrary.carrd.co

I "sell" some of my art in exchange for donations to Project HOPE:

I like reading books with people about important things:

hey do you want to show appreciation to your loved ones in discord dms or other places that use markdown, but struggle with earnest vulnerability? boy howdy, look no further!

(alternatively, if the meaningful message doesn’t matter, just take a sharpie to a letter and send it in the mail) #comic

I am begging you to keep making your thing, even if it is messy, even if you don't think it will sell. There are losers typing keywords into water-guzzling shitmachines and thinking they are a gift to the arts. YOUR THING IS ALREADY BETTER THAN ANYTHING THEY WILL MAKE BECAUSE YOU ARE MAKING IT!

Men aren't more lonely than women but the loneliness epidemic is real. Millions are in isolation, it's capitalist individualism, & disability is isolating. Lots of folks are really alone. But it's not gendered, that framing is patriarchy, babying men like their unhappiness is everyone else's burden.
According to Pew Research and a few other stats, the loneliness epidemic isn’t disproportionately affecting men over other genders.

I have a feeling that men have been the squeaky wheel over the last few years.

If anything, we have a loneliness epidemic because more people are (barely) surviving.

UPDATE: Another Chicago-area church has put up an immigration-themed Nativity scene.

A church member at Urban Village Church sent this one along, where Mary, Joseph and Jesus are gone and replaced with a sign that reads: “Due to ICE activity in our community, the Holy Family is in hiding.”

'you can generate a different ending every time you view a movie!'

'you can have endless text conversations with NPCs in games!'

'you can summarize a novel, you don't have to read it!'

the pitches for genAI really reveal how much the people behind it just... hate art.

like. *hate* art. deeply.

Whatever else it can do, this tech adds work and erodes trust. The extra work is time-wasting and wearying, and I resent the erosion of trust most deeply. I cannot believe it is healthy for society to be ever less sure that anything you encounter is the real thought or expression of a fellow human
I spend so much time verifying everything now from art to cited sources to photos to historical references to citations to quotes to legal and medical information that it's really hard to fathom how much work AI has collectively added to the world, not reduced
Here's the reality this example illustrates:

It's not even just about people blindly trusting what ChatGPT tells them. LLMs are poisoning the entire information ecosystem. You can't even necessarily trust that the citations in a published paper are real (or a search engine's descriptions of them).

maybe everyone has become an incredibly self-centered solipsistic maniac!!

or maybe everyone is stressed out of their mind for the past 5 years of fascism and pandemic, while also being the non-stop targets of predatory attention-sapping technologies.

dont fall into a trap of misanthropy.

Been thinking about this a lot lately. I'm not a "climber" by any means, but I find the affectations of people who aspire to upward mobility are anything but effortless. And it's not their fault, because the goalposts are always moving.

But maybe we can opt out of it altogether?
Speaking of Restoration Hardware, this man's been doing a series of videos about class and how the upperclass uses taste to enforce their hierarchy and it's superb

Being extremely careful about image/video attribution isn’t JUST important for giving credit to artists and creators. It’s also a way to slightly decrease your chances of spreading deceptive AI slop!
The thing that made me most suspicious was the lack of attribution of any kind. A conveniently perfect light-up sign at the beginning that states the premise of the video but doesn’t mention the facility, for instance. (This is part of why it’s bad to share stuff if you don’t know its provenance!)

hard to think of anything more core to the US that is *also* in the category of “this is good stuff we should keep” than birthright citizenship

if you’re wondering the other categories of core US stuff are: “this is a racist garbage fire,” “cash and land grab bonanza,” and “what even is this”
