The stats for lists on Letterboxd delivered me a little image that feels like an ideological statement on my part.
My mundane hot take is the Jeopardy format of needing to answer in the form of a question is really pretty silly and it annoys me no end on the occasions I do actually see it.

And so it begins! Not a review, it’s a statement by Cameron but hwfg.

It's bizarre to me this 'The Line' thing in Saudi Arabia has been taken semi-seriously for as long as it has - countless column inches, video hours, & broadcast segments on it. From the start, it has been an obviously stupid idea. Even if it is possible, why on earth would you build a city this way?

Is Glen Powell wearing disguises his Tom-Cruise-running thing? Hit Man, Tye Running Man, now this. What the fuck is going on here?

Controversial opinion: if you know anything about chemistry and material science then this is not surprising in the slightest.
Pro-Tip: LoveHoney's lube surprisingly works just as well as WD40 on squeaky door hinges.

I regret to inform fans of Nottingham Forest that Kenny Dalglish manages to land a few final jabs on them in the Kapadia doc by referring to them as 'Notts Forest'.

Look, I'm on record with my views about GenAI in creative work, and I worry about its impact as an unfettered consumer offering. That being said, being moral scolds to Joe Public about using it casually on their phone is not going to win any battles. Consistent objective messaging *might*.

When you can't find your notes made during a film you saw weeks ago, when you've finally just started writing the piece...

When discussing the BBC, I’m kind of amazed nobody notes that it’s probably the one place left for UK residents with a news website that is in any way technically usable or possible to navigate. All the major papers’ websites are messes of permissions at best & unusable ad-strewn garbage at worst.

This would be hilarious even if I *wasn’t* a Dundee United fan (Celtic lost to a team without a win in ten matches, despite 76% possession). The fact I am? Delicious.

Just seen YouTube, re: the Oscars news, described as 'low rent'...am I missing something? It is the year of our lord 2025, and YouTube has been around for twenty years now. I've watched Champions League finals & documentaries on it, amongst much else, FFS. It's not been just cat videos for a while.

For fear of making myself suspicious to BlueSky, I worked in the oil industry for about 7 years cumulatively before leaving. This is the view of an idiot who doesn't understand the difference between NOCs, supermajors, service companies, joint ventures, and the relationships between them all.
-laughs nervously-

What the fuck?

If they opened Jurassic Park I would absolutely go. If they opened Jurassic World you couldn’t pay me to go.
If they opened Jurassic Park for real, half of you would go.

As ever, I will go into Fire and Ash with an open mind, but having rewatched the first two Terminator films recently, I'll say it's frustrating to see the guy behind them dedicate his remaining career to an seemingly endless rehashing of the same technical challenge. Compare to Ridley Scott...(1/2)
Shocked to hear that Avatar 3 reuses plot beats from the previous movies, given that Avatar 2 is basically beat for beat the same plot as Avatar 1.

These are not good movies.

One of my favorite movies, 'Broadcast News,' was released on this day in 1987. For @Slate.com I wrote about its deleted scenes, which show how easily a great film could've gone sideways:
Broadcast News Is Nearly Perfect, but Its Deleted Scenes Reveal How Close It Came to Disaster
The classic rom-com’s little-seen alternate ending shows how thin the line is between masterpiece and misfire.

I do miss Xitter, or at least what it used to be. It always had that element of troll-y, bait-y stuff anonymous internet forums likely always will, but it was least engaging and I found interesting folk. But it's now just pretty...vile? And the pay-to-play element means its reach isn't great either.
I’ve seen many liberal, pro-science people leave X for Bluesky, but go back to Twitter because their only reason for existing was yelling at people on the internet. They couldn’t function here.

The reason I left X was to get away from the flood of that hitting my feed. Much happier here.

Category 3 tickets for Scotland's matches against Haiti and Morocco at the World Cup are 180USD and 220USD respectively! If you go to Category 2, it's 400/430. For Category 1 it's 500/600. Absolute madness.

I've just found out that the recorded version of Hamilton, released on Disney+, winning an Emmy is what prevented David Byrne of Talking Heads from completing the whole EGOT thing with American Utopia.
