Wild that only two countries played women's soccer this year.
The Fifa Best women's XI for 2025:
Hampton, Bronze, Williamson, Paredes, Batlle, Bonmati, Guijarro, Pina, Caldentey, Russo, Putellas.

the only plausible winner, this is prime marta'ing, elite marta'ing, doing something so outrageous that even exceptional, world cup-winning players fall to their knees in disbelief

Also, 4 Republicans voted nay (Cruz, Lee, Moran, and Paul) & 3 didn't vote (Daines, Hawley, & Moody). Meaning this bill absolutely could not have passed this stage without the support of the Democrats.

Big week ahead for the NWSL! The board of governors meet to make a new rule official, and the NWSLPA’s grievance must be answered.

Okay so yes it's a big deal that Nebraska lost at home to A&M but... I'm seeing way too many people treat A&M like some random terrible team? They're VERY GOOD!

This game might wind up being better than the final, tbh. What a match! I am exhausted and we still have another set to go.
THE MARATHON SET IS OVER

Nebraska claims the fourth 37-35. Adriano got the touch call on a kill on NU 's 10th set point. Texas A&M had 3 match points.

The Huskers had 22 kills and 10 errors that set after trailing 18-11. Murray is up to 24 kills. Lednicky and Stowers have 21K.

too much bonus volleyball for the too much caffeine I had today

for real folks, get to ABC and watch this game!
Murray tried a tip from the back-row but the up-official overruled the line judge saying the pancake dig was good. Hellmuth fired one off the NU block.

The call is overturned. Kill for Murray. The Aggies are up 21-19 in the first set.

Nothing made me more sure that the NWSL salary cap was egregiously low than writing this article and trying to determine how teams could pay players a proper wage + retain “marquee” players.
I disagree with the NWSL’s proposed solution as it doesn’t solve the suppression of wages for the majority.
Linking @chloesainsbury.bsky.social’s article here bc she basically defined this exact profile earlier this year (in a more succinct and understandable manner, I might add):

Now wishing the NWSL board had chosen to microdose winning by simply raising the cap. Instead they chose to microdose losing with a means tested bs mechanism.
Loving the announcers on this vb game calling a one point lead a "microlead."

Microdosing winning.

Yes, and I'm delighted to hear what/where Meghann Burke will say things in the morning
Funny how we are right back to the same situation as when the league started and the USWNT and other national teams were subsidizing the top players. Raising the cap would have been a better move (and I bet the NWSLPA will have something to say about that)
SOURCES: The #NWSL board has voted to approve a new star player fund—internally called "High Impact Player"—to allow teams to spend up to $1M over the cap with a much smaller cap hit for players who meet criteria.

Crucially: A change affecting the cap requires NWSLPA consultation. On @espn.com:

Us: get rid of (or at least raise) the salary cap!

NWSL Board: let’s create a convoluted new system that inadvertently enforces a salary maximum!

Again, as a reminder, Naomi Girma wasn't even nominated for a BDO the year she won a Shield and a gold medal while playing every minute. She'd qualify because she's a US player, but we haven't dealt with our biases enough to tie people's salaries to this. Ion like it.

I understand how Ballon d'Or voting could be involved in the new High Impact Player system, but will also be irritated by it every day for as long as the system would be in place.

Ballon d'Or voting is consistently, egregiously flawed when it comes to NWSL, due to its nomination process.
