This is part of why Trump & RFK Jr.’s war on autism is so frustrating for #autistic people to watch: Things were getting better. Not there yet, but better. We had more awareness, less stigma, policies & research priorities moving in the right direction. These clowns are undoing DECADES of advocacy.
Now, I feel like there's much more focus on helping people with autism live their best lives, giving them the support and services they need (at any age) to thrive. People with autism tell me that's where the reserach should be. 3/3

If you, like me, are the parent of a neuro-atypical child dreading this autism press conference, please remember: These are the people hurting our kids. Not us. They are the ones stigmatizing and pathologizing them. They are the ones peddling untested science. And we should be very, very angry.

For fucks sake Aussie journos listen up! ‘mild’ and ‘moderate’ autism are not real things, those are not medical terms, nor are they terms used in autism spaces. Do one second of research if you are going to cover something as serious as people’s lives. You’re all so fucking incompetent and ableist.

Try not to overdo comparisons to robodebt. But this is closest I've seen to a post-robodebt copy of the playbook. NDIS boss demands participant be booted from scheme after conservative radio segment. No evidence. Sham process. Against policy. Gets it WRONG www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/health/...
Exclusive: NDIA chief intervened to throw advocate off scheme
Internal emails show the National Disability Insurance Agency rushed to withdraw access for a disabled person whose funding was criticised on talkback radio, only to reinstate it 10 months later.

I think a lot about how Aaron Swartz committed suicide while facing a probably long jail sentence for download some of JSTOR, but no one at Meta is going to face any repercussions for using all of Libgen to train its AI.
Someone else said something very similar to this the other day, but.

It really burns me that our (millennials') generation was legally terrorized for like, downloading Radiohead discographies

But we're supposed to be ok with billionaires stealing human intellectual output in its entirety bc AI
