Trimjob

This is a great golf-adjacent arcade game about sending a hedge trimmer on a collision course with a bunch of weeds to see how many you can cut in a single "stroke". Feels a bit like a lost UFO 50 game, which is the ultimate compliment!

Big Hops

There have been a lot of games trying to capture that golden-era of 3D platformers, but I feel like this is the first one to nail the lighthearted and fun side of playing them while offering enough room for hardcore players to have fun. Cute frogs!

Birdcage

I really love the style of this game! The visuals and presentation are drawing on some Kojima-level inspirations (and I'm sure others I'm not even tapped into), and even if you're not the biggest shoot-em-up fan, you should play this to hear the OST

Tears of Metal

Musou meets Braveheart - this hack-n-slash game about leading your army of killer Scotsmen to defeat the invading English and take back your homeland is a blast! The locales look great, soundtrack's killer, and the combat's paced perfectly.

Cairn

There have been a lot of great climbing games focused on the beautiful challenge of scrambling up a mountain, but none have been as meditative and focused on every little physical and mechanical interaction as Cairn. From the studio that made Furi!

Skate Story

I can't write something better than this quote from the Steam page "You are a demon in the Underworld, made out of glass and pain. The Devil has given you a skateboard with a simple deal: Skate to the Moon and swallow it — and you shall be freed."

Scrabdackle

Straight up the funniest game I've played in a minute. A whimsical and charming adventure through a doodle-core world that'll have you blowing up garbage, hanging out with peanuts, and scanning everything like you're Magical Samus Aran.

A first-person space adventure where you play as a sort of clean-up agent for people who have died because of an overgrowth of fungus (or maybe something else!) that you have to clean up as you discover what's happened. It's quite beautiful!

Goodnight Universe

This is a must-play! Another webcam-as-controller game from some of the people that made Before Your Eyes, that expands on what they did in the original. Seriously, you can play this without a webcam/camera, but you'd be doing it wrong.

Are you trying to check out #SteamNextFest demos but can't quite make it past all the AI crud? Overwhelmed by the sheer number of games of varying degrees of quality?

Well look no further! I'm going to be playing tons of demos this week and cataloguing the most standout ones in this thread:

Too early to say! The best curators I know are only catching up now, and the ones who do have huge lists can't vouch for them. There are a lot of "here are games that look cool" articles and videos which is more useful than an endless feed of junk, but personally are as useful as the Discovery Queue

Yeah it's been a tough one. It sucks because my favourite part is playing totally random shit I've never heard of but most of the time that means playing stuff that's secretly AI or messing with stuff that doesn't work

I’ll have my Next Fest thread up tomorrow (it’s Canadian Thanksgiving) but man it’s such a shame that this whole thing has become such a mess. Really takes some curation that’s not algorithmically driven to find the good stuff

Brackey’s is still the best for ez game dev tutorials. Good too because the video covers the basics really clearly and more advanced topics are in their own dedicated videos that are equally thorough.
