Experts say it’s highly unusual for the White House to tell agents to give up custody of potential evidence in an investigation, as it did with the Tates.

“I’ve never heard of anything like that in my 30 years working,” an ex-DHS official said.

Fani Willis is an excellent illustration of the concept that MOST Americans are super-deferential to prosecutors to the point of ignoring their bad behavior, so long as the prosecutors are going after someone the Americans in question don’t like.

It's fashionable now to trot out Nixon being ahead of his time on Russia, China, etc - for good & ill I helped start it - but nobody talks about the last chapter of In the Arena, which is pretty much a no-holds-barred attack on elderly politicians who won't get off the stage & go demented in public.

one thing thats crazy about the current era in the states is that it is clear across most domains that science got processed by a lot of people as "traumatic encounter with the real" and now they are just making decisions based on that trauma.

Over many interviews, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Michael Scherer about how he plans to remake America’s public-health system. Can he lead the scientific establishment he’s spent much of his life crusading against?
