The "guy whose party’s last president is in a U.S. prison for cocaine trafficking?"

Not anymore, incredibly—even as this administration kills poor people on boats based on the merest suspicion of cocaine trafficking.

If I'm understanding this correctly, the man who shot two national guards in DC was a former Afghan child soldier who fought alongside US special forces and in a CIA-supervised unit and later was granted asylum. The word "blowback" comes to mind.

Trump says he will pardon former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernández, who was charged, tried and convicted on drug trafficking charges, and who is currently serving a 45-year sentence in a US prison. Why? Probably because he gave Trump a taste of the action.

Fatso is projecting.

I don’t do unilateral disarmament.
This CBS story is just remarkable. It states that Trump insulted their reporter, and also notes the same thing happened to reporters from Bloomberg and NYT.

Both of those organizations are quoted defending their journalists.

But Bari Weiss and CBS don't lift a finger to defend their own reporter.
Not a peep from CBS News boss Bari Weiss after Trump called CBS reporter Nancy Cordes 'stupid' at a Thurs n/c. CBS mentions the incident in this piece about Trump's repeated attacks on female reporters but Bari's MIA when it comes to standing up for Cordes.

Unfortunately, servicemembers are required to follow stupid orders.

It takes a savvy staff officer or senior NCO to convince a commander that the order is, if not stupid, not destined to reap the desired results.

Except that’s what everyone on the right was doing before we learned it was the Trump admin that granted him asylum - and most are still doing it. If only Republicans would blame the shooters more often instead of trying to use deranged acts by individuals for political gain.

Bluesky doesn’t have a central algorithm that’s forced on everybody, and allows users to create their own feeds.

I think that is the *only* ethical model for social media going forward:

One notable thing about this is they're being investigated by a court-appointed USA in Maryland, because they've failed to get a Senate-confirmed one. A future reform worth considering is expanding that, perhaps carving out public corruption cases and making them always under a court appointee.
