Some academic needs to do a study of why people are afraid to ring a bell when a sign says “Please ring the bell.” Yet they are completely unafraid of walking right in and wandering aimlessly around an office scaring the hell out of the people who work there

The women abused by Justin Tucker and Art Briles have to carry those scars for the rest of their lives. It’s not to much to ask that Tucker and Briles should, too, rather than being given chances at redemption.
Art Briles, Justin Tucker getting second chances they don't deserve
If our society valued women, Justin Tucker and Art Briles would be pariahs. Instead, they're enjoying second chances despite the harm they've caused.

Lots of universities have wealthy backers who get buildings named after them and such. But Dan Finney writes about a man who lifted a school by investing in its neighborhood and was there to help on its darkest day. Just an outstanding tribute.

Art Briles has been hired as the head football coach at a D2 school and so is back in the news. If you want to understand why this hire is upsetting for many, here's the long piece @dansolomon.com and I wrote back in 2019 about How Baylor Happened: web.archive.org/web/20190208...
How Baylor Happened
WACO, Texas — There’s not much to recommend spending four years in Waco. Driving into town up Interstate 35 from the south, the endless stretch of Texas nothing fills out slowly. It’s flat in the way ...

And destroyed so many lives. It certainly upended mine, as I was DOGEd in March. So much damage done, to people and institutions
DOGE was created for data theft and infrastructure dismantling and it wildly succeeded on both counts within the first few weeks of its existence. It will take a generation to rebuild what it destroyed and the breach of data is unprecedented.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

The biggest beneficiary of transgender athletes collectively and Lia Thomas specifically is Riley Gaines.

Had Thomas not been in that race, Gaines would’ve finished an irrelevant fourth instead of an irrelevant fifth, and probably would be working in a Walmart right now.

Instead she’s cashing in.
An incident in a locker room has always been key to Riley Gaines’ anti-trans fame.

But @msjpauly.bsky.social spoke to swimmers who were present at the same 2022 meet. They shared a very different narrative.
How right-wing superstar Riley Gaines built an anti-trans empire
The swimmer tied a trans woman for fifth. The MAGA industrial complex took care of the rest.

This is an accidentally honest answer. What she's saying in code is:
"The President is a misogynist, petulant bully. You've all seen him be a misogynist, petulant bully. And lots of voters out there are also misogynist or petulant or bullies and that's why they like him."
Q: What did the president mean when he called a reporter "piggy"?

LEAVITT: Look, the president is very frank & honest with everyone in this room. You'll all seen it yourself. You've all experienced it yourselves. And I think it's one of the many reasons the American people reelected this president

My sister died a couple of weeks ago. This isn’t a post for sympathy but to share some advice. She had been sick for years and it’s crazy, and infuriating, how many people tell me “I should have gone to see her.” It’s all I can do to not scream “YES YOU F***ING SHOULD HAVE.”
