I never named this photo, but I should just call it "Wisconsin." You've got a tavern with a toddler at the bar and an old guy in a Packers jacket.

Puempel’s in New Glarus.

It’s from an old cookbook I picked up when I was covering the Missouri Valley Conference tournament and the school was called SW Missouri. Back in their Final Four days. The book was old when I got it. Not sure how Kay got in there but famous alums are, too

How you know old people live in my building: Three newspapers outside. Yes, one of them is mine.

A wholesome version: The Iowa Pork Producers have had some fun NIL deals with the Iowa State football team in recent years

Not a new photo but a favorite: Some pissed off turkeys on the east side of Madison, presumably headed just down the street to the Jenifer Street Market to rescue some friends.

Yoko knows.

(This isn’t new today, just something I saved. But it’s pretty timeless)

She's the best ever at Drake, which has had a few great ones. Later that night, past players gathered for a drink and former Bulldog and current Iowa coach Jan Jensen stopped by. She was no slouch, either. This photo brings me such joy, I need to frame it and put it up at home.

A year ago, Drake celebrated its 50th anniversary of women’s basketball and all its greatest stars were there. There was none greater than 1986 all-American Wanda Ford. I had the privilege of covering her as a student journalist. Absolutely incredible, led the nation and scoring and rebounding. …

One of my favorite photos of my dad. I don’t know if he was shipping out or coming home, but I love that it captures the small-town boy (7 in his graduation class) in the big city. And the photo itself is so Vivian Maier. Possibly, probably, a self-portrait; he did a lot of them as a soldier.

Big fan of this business name that I just saw as I was driving around looking at pretty trees.

It was me helping my photographer friend test the lighting for a portrait to accompany a story I wrote. Current basketball fans will recognize one of them, old-school Iowans would certainly know both

Last night, I took a picture of a house where they pretty much overdo the Halloween decorations. I was at a stop sign, just whipped out my phone and snapped a picture and drove off. I didn’t realize til just now that this is what I got. This looks way better than their decorations.
