Being of the phenomenon is not sufficient to explain the phenomenon of Being.

God it's so cool that so much of British and European nationalist politics has broadly been shaped by warehouse clickfarms rented by guys in South Asia running "how to make money from racist old people" workshops, and that this has had more influence on media and politics than any grassroots group

Not eating animals is a very robust rule of thumb when it comes to reducing your environmental footprint and the amount of suffering your diet may be producing.

Tuna-fishing has among the worst working conditions of any fishing.

Damn. Now I will have to listen, and probably disagree churlishly that Flateartha the Numidian, Ekonomikrisis the Phoenician, Orangeade and Lemonade etc were racist names, not just funny ...

Can't find out if Cloudflare is down because Cloudflare being down has taken out DownDetector, along with half the internet.

I’ve written to Keir Starmer, Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage urging them to condemn Donald Trump’s attack on the BBC.

The BBC belongs to Britain, not Trump. We must defend it together.

Turns out there is actually a zero cost way to minimise exposure to the shit-gibbons across the pond, and go about minding our own business ...

This country made significant progress against racism in my lifetime - but we did not do so by chance. There is a visible visceral regression in experiencing of overt racism because the toxic fringe with the most extreme views have a sense of permission & impunity

Comment: Why are we going backwards on racism in Britain?
Black and Asian people have increasingly equal opportunities to reach the top, but a viscerally and unacceptably unequal experience of public space

But the packaging of Tylenol says "acetaminophen" not paracetamol, because different people made different choices when abbreviating N-acetyl-para-aminophenol.

I’m a broken record on this, but — there are so many examples of famous people radicalised by midlife career/personal knockbacks. Ant Middleton was on yday’s march. He got done for tax offences and lost his TV work. Now he’s mates with Tommy Robinson.

It's been said a million times before, in more eloquent ways, but seeing the misery first-hand makes it hard to ignore how much of contemporary life is shaped by social dislocation and chronic male loneliness. Half of this would go away if Warhammer and lower league football tickets were on the NHS.

@anandmenon.bsky.social "the politics of it all make no sense", indeed.
But the origins of it can be explained if we consider that Labour might be guided by Reform-sympathetic journeymen strategists motivated only by short-term polling ...

Bloody hell, @jemima.bsky.social ! I sometimes sneak off to Halwa Poori on weekend for a cheeky halwa-poori.
Now I'm thinking how to explain to the owner the significance of Yarvin, and whether he will be happy or appalled to have served him ... (Kudos to you on picking out a hidden gem though)
I spent the day with Curtis Yarvin and the "dissident right" at a garden party in Surrey and wrote quite a few words about it.

People do stuff out of misplaced loyalties, hormonal derangement, stubbornness and embarrassment, all held in balance by a sense of duty and/or a need to be paid. You don't get efficiency by taking averages of their decisions, you just shore their decisions of their human purpose.
