None of this justifies using food culture as a propaganda strategy to erase a society’s inequalities and oppressive behaviours, which I appreciate is what provokes some of this, but counter arguments should be founded on good reasoning if progressive outcomes are your aim.

One consequence of Netflix putting out so much slop is that the geniunely good stuff they do put out gets overshadowed. ‘Midnight Mass’ was geniunely really good, the first ‘religious horror’ series that took the ‘religious’ part actually seriously, rather than just using it as an aesthetic.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

Given that anyone with a brain ought to recognise how many “national dishes” were impossible pre-Columbian Exchange, it’s nice to finally see pushback on the inherently ethnonationalist/racist claim that some cultures have “authentic dishes” and other “parasitic” cultures only “steal” them

I always caution people to append the phrase "in mice" at the end of any miraculous medicine story since we can make mice do, basically, anything biologically.

This is different. While it is a study in mice, the mechanism has little to do with mice's uniquely malleable biology.

do you ever think about how fucked up it was for them to tell us salads are the healthy choice from the time we were, if you are my age, kids in the fat-and-sugar-content-crisis era and then put a dressing on there that made a burger with fixings the genuinely more balanced option
