Democrats gave up on winning rural areas in general, and it is not about guns and immigration. They lost the branding battle and watched as the media environment become openly hostile. Republican policies have hollowed out rural economies, but Democrats have no ability to make that argument.

NEW — I dug into the story of ICE abducting a 13-year-old boy in Massachusetts and moving him 500 miles across state lines without notifying his mother, local cop's complicity, and how the federal government's justification for such cruelty is already falling apart:

ICE took a 13-year-old they said had a gun. Local cops say he didn’t.

Now he's detained 500 miles away from his Massachusetts home.

These results suggest that Mills is benefiting from higher name recognition but Platner will do better when people learn about him. IMO a charismatic outsider is better than a 79 year old insider in this political environment.

This story could use a little context. These extrajudicial killings are illegal under international law and Trump has provided no proof these are drug smugglers much less that they are smuggling fentanyl.

And similarly, when Biden was making rational decisions, constrained by norms, and surrounded by a highly competent staff his mental acuity was a top media concern. Trump is acting irrationally, with dictatorial powers and surrounded by clowns and the media is silent.
