I recently dusted off one of my abandoned side projects. It’s a website where I share my web dev bookmarks. It's called "bookmarks98" because, you guessed it, it’s heavily inspired by Windows 98 #BuiltWithEleventy

Someone built a 3D voxel engine using plain ol’ DOM nodes, no canvas/webgl. And it’s surprisingly performant, since it culls any faces that aren’t currently visible.

it is still inefficient. it still hallucinates. it still makes slop that displaces real people's jobs. but i suppose now we know about its effect on communities living near datacentres and its possibility to destroy the consumer electronics market. i guess claude code makes up for all that to you

there's something fascinating (and horrible, sure) about the way these things burn through cultural capital. Like the evocative pleasures of "ghibli-style" imagery have been built up over decades and in two days nobody is ever going to want to see it again
