I recently dusted off one of my abandoned side projects. It’s a website where I share my web dev bookmarks. It's called "bookmarks98" because, you guessed it, it’s heavily inspired by Windows 98 #BuiltWithEleventy

1. AI does not have feelings just like a printer doesn't have feelings

2. Anthropic destroyed millions of print books to build its AI models. They did not care about destroying other's work and stealing their work. But apparently they care about the "feelings" of AI

Well this is remarkable. 😮

Someone built a 3D voxel engine using plain ol’ DOM nodes, no canvas/webgl. And it’s surprisingly performant, since it culls any faces that aren’t currently visible.

Repo: github.com/LayoutitStud...

There’s even a nifty lil’ editor!

it is still inefficient. it still hallucinates. it still makes slop that displaces real people's jobs. but i suppose now we know about its effect on communities living near datacentres and its possibility to destroy the consumer electronics market. i guess claude code makes up for all that to you
I am actually watching someone retweet their AI criticism from 2024 right now, without realizing how silly it sounds.

the only benefit (?) to GenAI for me is that it's making me want to stay offline more than ever. I'm sick of seeing AI generated videos/pics everywhere. I'd rather stay offline at this point.

i'm also sick of software trying to push their AI features down my throat, which is leading me to become–

there's something fascinating (and horrible, sure) about the way these things burn through cultural capital. Like the evocative pleasures of "ghibli-style" imagery have been built up over decades and in two days nobody is ever going to want to see it again
Stuff like this is perfect because it shows how utterly devoid of creativity genAI evangelists are.

Great you recreated a photo that already exists in a drawing style that only has currency because of who you're stealing it from giving the world something with absolutely no value or meaning.
OpenAI released a new version of their image generation technology, and people are using it to recreate memes in the style of Studio Ghibli.

This may be the end of the fighting. It certainly won't be the end of the genocide.

Palestinians will need massive amounts of aid as they begin to recover and rebuild. Gazans will still be living in the world's largest open air prison.
Oh God please let this be the end of it. Fifteen months of genocide. Fifteen months begging supposedly moral people to do the moral thing. Fifteen months watching people who know better lie or be silent when they knew what was going on.

Complete CSS is by far the longest course I've done. It's 55 lessons long broken into 7 modules.

Learn Eleventy From Scratch was 31 and Learn CSS was 25 lessons when I did the first edition

I've drafted 36 lessons now and on the final writing sprint. It's been a slog 😅
