Such an interesting and friendly evening with @odavis.bsky.social and @cerihoulbrook.bsky.social discussing the changing nature of folklore at @treadwells-books.bsky.social.
Thank you for making me feel so welcome! I look forward to coming back for future events.

I finally felt able to write a bit today, and have just finished typing up all five recipes to go in 'Taste', my WIP food themed genre collection.

Just the final edits to go on the opening novella, then I can compile it all and send to the publisher I'm hoping will take it on!

I was once told that this book - Magic, Maps, and Mischief - written by an autistic person about the autistic experience, did nothing new.

I didn't agree, and put it down to people judging worth differently.

1,600 sales later since October 24th, I'm glad people agree with me ❤️

Ok @shonak.bsky.social I have now discovered the ancient language of Octopian (used by all space-faring octopuses) and have created a font. This is all your fault 😂🐙

I'm off work and my brain is scrampled egg right now so can't get stuck into writing... So I have been doing a bit of art. It's messy and it's shiny and it's keeping me sane. Ish. Anyway here is my space octopus.

This time last week I was packing to leave @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social. It was a strange con for me as I was deep in bereavement, but the support of so many wonderful friends and loved ones kept me going.

Here are a few highlights, and there will be a load more on my Ida Keogh FB page.

This story out today by @worldanvil.bsky.social is incredibly beautiful and spoke to my grief when I needed it most this morning.

I am at @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social!

I'm moderating this evening's panel on Food, Music and Costume (7pm) and have CAKE - the recipe for which is in my food genre story collection 'Taste', which I'm just putting the finishing touches on.

Good audience question = CAKE!

This is the kind of stuff I like to explore in my writing. I am just putting the finishing touches on a collection of genre stories all centred around food. The way sharing it enriches our lives, the impact of food scarcity, the ritual use of food to celebrate or to mourn.

"Agriculture and produce is inherently political. Think of all the things that goes into food: who has access to eat it, to grow it, how it’s kept safe, what companies dominate that market, where it is imported from and exported to, what food is kept to the wealthy and kept away from the poor..."
In today's apple reviews, I review a -- *checks notes* banana?

Also, some chatter about food insecurity and food banks --

It's been a very tough week, but I'm having a little pamper in the salon today to get ready for @worldfantasy2025.bsky.social and finally getting round to reading British Fantasy Award nominee @sarahreesbrennan.bsky.social's Long Live Evil. 💜

@jeremycshipp.bsky.social if you're on the look out for turtles, you may like this post as much as I did... (I think the algorithm is just showing me all your animal seeking posts now 😂)
The etymology of ‘turtle’ is interesting as shell.

'Turtle' comes from the French 'tortue,' which in turn comes from the Late Latin 'tartarucha.'

‘Tartarucha’ was short for the phrase ‘bestia tartarucha’ which means "infernal beast" or "beast of the nether regions."

I bought a copy of Futility after hearing @nuzo.bsky.social read from it at Super Relaxed Fantasy Club on Tuesday. It is... passionate, and hilarious, with just the right amount of extreme female rage. Well worth picking up!
Remember, we have 5 copies of @nuzo.bsky.social's latest, Futility, to give away with big thanks to @titanbooks.bsky.social! Head over to our blog to read more about the book, and find out how you can win.

I do love a good bit of inventive cooking.

#Writersky #Amwriting
My hot take is that none of these are structure. These are all recipes that describe structure.

Structure is the Salt, Fat, Acid Heat of writing.

3-Act/Hero's Journey etc are recipes.

You can make great meals without using a recipe if you understand the principles of structure.
So #WritingCommunity how do we feel about structure?

Do you use the 3 act structure? The 5 act?

Hero's Journey? Save the Cat? Super Structure Method? Story Genius Method?

Something else?

What have you got?
