A lot of us will make the most we ever will if our books were recognized as stolen in the Anthropic lawsuit (which excluded a lot of books due to copyright registration.)

And it's a bit demoralizing to realize that's how our books suddenly have value...as fodder for a plagiarism machine.

You should be concerned about the rate of authors leaving publishing. Especially from marginalized communities. This year I have seen so many authors just pack it up and go. And it's only getting worse.

It feels weird to post writing joy in this timeline, but I also want to spit in the face of it all and go LOOK, we *can* still find joy: in the process, in the act of creation, in the sheer chasing of a plot through the darkness, trusting that it'll all come together and then watching do just that
