Picked up some new follows! 👋 Howdy!

Short intro: PhD particle physics doing fission product beta/gamma spec. PDoc: experiment design/sims for subcritical nuclear data measurements. Pivot to applied work non-proliferation/radiological emergency response (ER). Now SME + advisor for ER & non-pro R&D.

Me: ...?

SO: "Olive, the other reindeer, used to laugh and call him names... THEY never let poor..."

Me: I love Olive the non-binary bully Caribou

I love being in my late 30s with more practical experience in the field and being told I'm not "senior" enough for a project when USAID was dismantled by a kid who probably can't rent a car without an additional fee.

"I forgot how to drive because my car has been wiping my ass for the past two years."

I'd have my teeth pulled with rusty pliers before I'd admit that.

This was a dumb thing to do, but the article gets a lot wrong.

This was not a "device" in the nuclear weapons sense of an explosive without a delivery vehicle. It was not an explosive at all.

I'll write a post. #nukesky
How Did the C.I.A. Lose a Nuclear Device in the Himalayas? (Gift Article)
A plutonium-packed generator disappeared on one of the world’s highest mountains in a covert mission that the U.S. will not talk about.

Did GMAW (MIG) tonight in welding class and made an abomination of a "sculpture" out of a bunch of coupons and I think I'm going to leave it in a common area near my management's office at work.

Gov. @gavinnewsom says he disagrees with Mayor @zohrankmamdani about the need for a wealth tax on billionaires, which he is “adamantly against” - says Dems are a “big tent party” with both views.

Calling a glorified photo printer "the biggest hit of my recent parties" is such a weird self-own.

Genuinely, people are just buying the most dogshit products available. Just leave a Polaroid camera on the table.

The secret to early retirement; dine out rarely, fly economy and be a Google employee making $390,000/year married to a fellow Google employee 17 years older than you who likely makes twice as much as you.

She left a $390,000-a-year job and now uses a simple set of rules to make her savings last in Switzerland.

Living in California is fun because you can just not turn on your heat (it's currently 45 F) and it *might* break even-ish with your summer AC.

Remember that NASA was only able to *start* because the rich were being taxed at 90+% marginal rates.

Now, *you* pay a greater percent of your income as taxes than any billionaire.

You're just not gonna get NASA back without billionaires paying taxes again.

The real airplane clothing questions I have when I see PJs, slippers, pillows, etc.

Are you all sleeping in those when you get to your destination? Did you pack an extra pillow case? Are those slippers you would wear inside your house (intersects with wearing outside shoes in the home discourse)?

A part, *I think*, is one of my earliest memories being a test of the Emergency Broadcast System (now "Emergency Alert System").

There's more for the science part but this early component feels very on the nose.

We need alternatives to this model of retirement funding.
And those distortions have real material base. If you're 60 years old and 75% of your wealth in your home's value, you don't want housing prices to fall! If you're 29 and looking to buy your first home you do!
