Looking for books to get for #climate curious friends & family this Christmas🎄?

Here are 6 of my favourites reads this year.

First up, Yale University historian Sunil Amrith's relentlessly edifying 'The Burning Earth'. A staggeringly comprehensive account of how we got to where we are! 🧵

Actually, the likelihood is 100%. In US jurisprudence, accused people are innocent until proven guilty. Hegseth's victims were not proven guilty; they were not even tried. Therefore they were ALL, to the last man, legally innocent. Hegseth ordered the murders of several dozen innocent men.
Rand Paul just posted this letter from the Coast Guard confirming that 1/4 of the boats they stop carry no contraband. The likelihood that Hegseth & Bradley ordered the murder of innocent civilians is very high.

I'd rather design a world where we don't NEED to rely on the "generosity" of billionaires.
An announcement by Michael and Susan Dell that they will donate more than $6 billion in the form of contributions to soon-to-be-opened Trump accounts is a “super exciting” development for American children, experts say.

Trump accounts just got a massive promised donation. Here’s what to know about who qualifies
Experts say the massive donation is a boon to children, but concerns remain with the structure of the accounts.

There's been some debate over the last few weeks about whether or not DOGE still exists. I don't think that semantic debate matters. We should be talking about who will be held accountable for all the catastrophic damage those over-confident idiots created.

Notably, they did not *need* to comply with the order.

The president does not have the authority to compel their cooperation.

This is complying in advance and selling out one of the most vulnerable minority communities in America.
SCOOP: The United States Tennis Association (USTA) quietly updated its player eligibility policy to ban trans women from competing as women in their leagues, tournaments and competitions in order to comply with Trump's anti-trans sports executive order. The policy went into effect on Monday.

These are good moments to remember that the CEOs of all the biggest companies in America are happy to go to White House dinners and slap this guy’s back. They do not care about this. Remember this, years from now, when they want you to forget.
Trump: "It’s a hellhole right now. And those Somalians should be out of here. They've destroyed our country. And all they do is complain, complain, complain. You have her. She’s always talking about the Constitution provides me with – go back to your own country and figure out your constitution."

"But libraries are essential — to learning, to community, to democracy, and to any hope we have of building a society organized around education and collective care, rather than control."
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed disastrous cuts to our city's libraries while setting aside $5M for a ShotSpotter replacement. As library associate Sara Heymann told me, “Libraries embody everything we need to fight back against fascism.” My piece on what’s at stake and how to fight back:

Low-trust societies are so expensive, I swear.

To bare my chest, my spouse and I just navigated two years of fighting for IDEA accommodations for our older kiddo whose dyslexia and decoding skills deficits were so pronounced that, in 3rd grade, their reading test scores were <1st percentile.
This is what frustrates me so much about these articles: Propagating the narrative that large numbers of kids are faking disabilities is just going to result in a world where disabled people are *even more* scrutinized when they ask for accommodations!
My kids go to a "rich" public school. My daughter is 7 and cannot read; she is a sweet, caring, intelligent child, but if you spend a moment with her it is clear that she has ADHD an order of magnitude more serious than what you think of when you hear "ADHD." Anybody questioning her IEP can fuck off

This will raise how much you pay to drive your car for the next ten years. Every time you fill up at the pump, the price should've been lower, but it won't be, because of this. Also more kids and elderly people will get sick from air pollution. Analysis: Seems bad. www.nytimes.com/2025/12/03/c...

When I say Spotify is Surveillance, I don’t just mean it’s creepy that they are tracking what music you listen to and using that data to serve ads.

I mean your Spotify data is deeply intimate and can be used to glean information about you like your daily habits, your moods, and more.

It's not ineptitude, folks. He doesn't need messaging or strategy tips. He's doing just what his bosses want. We aren't his bosses & this is not democracy in action. It's oligarchy. He's a tool but can still revel in getting to be the person with more power than us. Loves the groveling from suckups
Question: Who are his donors, and how do they benefit from this situation?

Answer: One of his biggest donors is BlackRock, which is actively investing in Palantir and in private prison companies.

Implication: Jeffries is actively profiting from ICE's expansion.

So to tell you how LA resists ICE- this morning there were people waiting at the exit of the CBP facility who took photos of every vehicle that left with their license plates. They cross referenced those license plates with old photos and found that one vehicle had a plate from a different vehicle.

Tonight, we did something everyone counted out. We proved to a nation that states like Tennessee are still worth fighting for. The margin was close, and that can only be attributed to the thousands of volunteers who showed out. This is just the beginning.

There was some progressive energy in Jersey City not just around the mayor's race, but some city council races. And the Working Families Party endorsed a slate of five city council candidates — two of which won in November, and the other 3 (Denise Ridley, Joel Brooks, Jake Ephros) won today.
