One of the biggest impacts I’ve seen from the unproven idea that people are wrongfully using disability accommodations is that people stop trusting people with disabilities and in fact further restrict, remove, and demonize accommodations for people with disabilities in general

The way Dems keep allowing Republicans to agenda-set on immigration is fascinating.
Jeffries: "The border is secure. That's a good thing. It happened on his watch. He wants to claim credit for it, of course he'll get credit for that. In terms of making sure that we actually deal with the issues that matter, including on immigration, there's a lot that's left to be desired."

NEW: You've read a lot about immigrants kidnapped, forcibly detained, and held in ICE facilities -- what about the immigrants *trying* to leave the country? Turns out its wildly difficult for them too.

don't miss this from @telliotter.bsky.social:
The Trump Administration Wants Immigrants to Self-Deport. It’s a Shit Show
The Trump administration has been virtually begging immigrants in the US to self-deport, even offering money. But some immigrants say it’s been nearly impossible.

The people who are trying to destroy universities when it comes to inclusion around race and gender are also opposed to inclusion around disability. This bullshit gives them cover. Once again, legacy media laundering far right complaints because it makes elites feel smug.
The administration is extorting universities for billions of dollars and attempting to destroy free speech, academic freedom, and independent thought but the Atlantic talked to a few professors at elite universities who think the problem is that some students need a little extra time on exams

The final episode of Collateral Damage, my podcast with The Intercept, is up this morning. It looks at the 1992 raid that killed Donald Scott, an eccentric millionaire who long feared that the government wanted to seize his home and property.

He was right.

ICE is horrific...and also an extension of how policing has always worked, not a radical break from it.

The parallels between the everyone is faking ADHD moral panic, and the kids "are becoming trans to be cool" moral panic are enormous.
Very similar to the trans-kids panic, where the prestige media narrative is that it's far too easy but you talk to any trans person, expert or parent and it's obvious that it's way too hard.
Once again, no one making these claims seems to understand the enormous hurdles in the way of getting a kid the help they need - in this case - I dare anyone suggesting this to go through an IEP process.

Please, please, please link to the lawsuits you're citing. I cannot spend all of my time playing the riddle game with court listener.

This is what frustrates me so much about these articles: Propagating the narrative that large numbers of kids are faking disabilities is just going to result in a world where disabled people are *even more* scrutinized when they ask for accommodations!
My kids go to a "rich" public school. My daughter is 7 and cannot read; she is a sweet, caring, intelligent child, but if you spend a moment with her it is clear that she has ADHD an order of magnitude more serious than what you think of when you hear "ADHD." Anybody questioning her IEP can fuck off
"Rich kids are gaming disability accommodations to gain an unfair advantage" is actually very different from "America has an extra-time-on-tests problem" — and the author hasn't proved that either! Rich kids might just be more likely to be diagnosed.

New from me @theintercept.com: the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s legacy will always be that of a tool of Israeli occupation and genocide, instrumental in the killings of 1000s of Palestinians and worsening a manufactured famine. Not whatever “success” GHF claims.

I’m late to it—there are already several episodes—but this is a gripping, infuriating, and much-needed podcast on the human cost of the War on Drugs.
The first episode of Collateral Damage, my reported podcast with The Intercept, went up today.

Hope you’ll check it out and, if you enjoy it, give it a favorable rating or review.

Eternal thanks to my producers @lauraflynn.bsky.social and Andrew Stelzer for making it happen.
