The “homemade pie” search tip is gold
Winter roadtrip across the country isn't exactly recommended, but we had to do it for a sick family reason - so making the best of it. I will tell you that if you just sort of continuously search the words "homemade pie" on the map as you go, things improve. Also, stopping in Nashville helps.

This is for sure my dicking around platform of choice but I have made a couple direct to camera videos on IG and I weirdly sort of liked it? I can see how people get hooked on that stuff.
i have said this before but if you are actually interested in influencing people beyond a narrow circle of too-online journalists you will be making direct to camera videos on tiktok, instagram and youtube. if you primarily post on text-based social media then you're just dicking around.

My favorite Wes A. Today is also what would’ve been my grandfather‘s 101st birthday, and he was an especially Gene-Hackman-like person.

This is a triumphal arch for ants!
I regret to inform you that Trump isn't planning to stop at the ballroom.

Also, just for the record: Napoleon, who demanded the Arc de Triomphe be built at Place de l'Etoile in 1806, died in exile in 1821.

Reposting this thread in response to a mass shooting at my Alma mater, a shooting that took place in a building where I used to write papers in the computer lab back in the 80s.
Duke has an amazing repository of the nation's historical gun laws...hundreds of laws which, if today's 2nd Amendment fundamentalists are to be believed, were 100% unconstitutional...and yet, no one seemed to notice that until the last 50 years or so. firearmslaw.duke.edu/repository-o...

My heart is broken once again by our gun culture and the senseless, avoidable loss of life and our right to live in peace and safety. I do believe we can change it.

Reading professors’ posts on how they would respond to a shooting in their classroom is… heartbreaking. 💔
With the intro class, I’ve accepted that there isn’t much that can be done because of the size of the auditorium and the locked doors. So we hope for the best.
Each semester I go in my classroom and I try to figure out what we would use to block the doors, if it would be safe to crawl out the windows, where we could hide if there was a mass shooter in campus. It’s such an indictment of this country how we have normalized these preventable tragedies.

AS A PROFESSOR, I AM ASKING

HOW ARE OUR STUDENTS SUPPOSED TO LEARN IN THESE CONDITIONS?

HOW ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO GO TO SCHOOL AND TAKE EXAMS KNOWING SOMEONE MIGHT JUST SHOW UP WITH AN EASY TO ACQUIRE AUTOMATIC WEAPON?

HOW??????????
Longer statement from Brown University:

"We are very sorry to share that we have confirmed reports of multiple shooting victims, but we are not able to share their condition. They have been transported to local hospitals."
