they reliably do this for corporations and anyone who asks including states committing crimes against their own citizens and won't admit anything was deleted and will block you if you ask about it. IA is not a reliable archive and we need ones who will have the guts to provide records of atrocities

Hard to take the conservative line that parenting should be tough and lead with strong consequences seriously when their concept of children apparently includes sadistically hateful, often violent men in their 20s and 30s and the consensus is that punishment would hinder their bright futures

transfem dot social is cool i know some musicians but idk a musicians or artists server the way mastodon dot gamedev dot place works. i think you will likely have a good experience there moderation wise which after my one negative experience is literally the only thing i care about anymore

in fact mastodon actually slows the whole process down bc website boy (gargron) thinks everything is fine as is and they just this week added support for quoting (which i actually fucking hate for various reasons but providing a link still works normally so i can just let others make bad decisions)

hosting will never be something 99% of users want or need to do but mastodon is fucking gargantuan to even get running and the flagship server applies german sensibilities to moderation which means censorship of support for palestine but they can't just make changes to the protocol unilaterally

it's getting easier to host. especially the developer of gotosocial is also cool and trans (and is very very explicitly antiracist) and gts is what i've seen every self hoster use. i'm mutuals with kopper who has big ideas about the whole ecosystem and really good critiques (team haters)

it's probably a little silly that programming is the main locus of online identity i use since i don't really feel that as a critical component of my identity it's just something i do 24/7 because i have anxiety and think i can save the world. so i like being on a server run by my friend

lots of people have alts on multiple servers which is honestly hard for my brain to do myself but account migration is one thing that definitely works (i experienced an edge case but survived)

i still think any programming focused server is iffy because they tend to have poor moderation practices but hachyderm dot io is 95% good and doesn't allow nazis which is really all i ask for (their admins are "AI" boosters but they're pretty quiet about it)

the creator of activitypub is cool and also trans (although i have very specific technical disagreements on some of her work but not in a bad way). i also like mastodon dot gamedev dot place, almost everyone on there is really cool for some reason.

i'm on circumstances dot run bc my polish sysadmin friend runs it and he's very nice and our rules are no fucking nazis so unlike the other server i was on where one admin threatened to moderate me because they didn't like my attitude about software their employer works on

you have indicated you are familiar with the fedi but i am going to reply regardless which i hope is not too annoying. i use pachli a lot which retains your place in the timeline and in the notifications even if you close the app which is ridiculously useful. it's a tusky fork which i also use
