Hello to all my new followers. I'm u/Hergrim over on AskHistorians, and here I'm mostly intermittently active and post about medieval warfare, various random thoughts about medieval warfare, occasionally the intersection of history and fantasy and whatever else takes my fancy.

Just a reminder that cash works better than food donations. Food donations take up volunteer time to make sure you're not donating something inedible (happens far too often) and also food banks get better discounts so their money can go farther than yours can
Speaking of being poor, people please donate to local food banks, many of us on SNAP will not get funds for groceries next month because of the government shutdown. It’s absolutely ridiculous that families will starve because of the government having a temper tantrum.

This series has been an interesting run. It is quite long - 10 posts and 68,000 words.

A surprising number of people commenting that they think this is their favorite or one of my best, but its readership is solidly average.

One for the real fans, I guess.
This week on the blog: Peasants! We are at last putting together and wrapping up our discussion of life for pre-industrial peasants - a category which includes a majority of all humans who have ever lived.

Donated platelets today at the Burbank Red Cross, 3 units plus 2 of plasma. It was chilly and made my arm twitch, but I'm glad I did it. And they're always looking for more, so please donate if you can. #burbank #RedCross #platelets
Ah, there's the crushing weight of Capitalism I was expecting.
Yeah. Sometimes Australia really lives up to its reputation!

If you haven’t read A Girl and Her Fed webcomic, now’s a good time. Read it for its writing, its philosophy, its weirdo characters that you can’t help but love. Even its evolving art style. Just read it—you’ll enjoy it.
After 18+ years, A GIRL AND HER FED is done, at least for now. Everyone welcome our new god of joy to the Weirdness Pantheon.

I wish I had a simple answer for how to teach about power and economics in the European middle ages to middle schoolers without lying to them about feudalism. I don’t. I’m not smart enough. But it’s something our profession should keep working on.
How every state in the US teaches about feudalism. A New post from me and @profgabriele.com, along with access to a slideshow and spreadsheet with more info.

24 states REQUIRE feudalism.
8 suggest feudalism.

Feudalism, ICYMI, is not a real thing. Click, read, share, subscribe (it's free!).

It got to 38 degrees where I was delivering today, and is fortunately "only" 32 degrees where I live.

I think this summer is going to have a few 45-47 degree days.

Today I helped take Sabrina, Loki, and Sterling from the Gwinnett County Shelter to the Franklin County Humane Society.

Sabrina needs significant medical care, so if you have it in your heart to donate here is the page of Franklin County Humane Society: www.plannedpethoodrockymount.com/donate
Clearly the problem is that they're not far enough to the Right. Clearly, if they just become One Nation they'll get the votes, right???!!!!!!!?
