Happy International Cat Day from Lizzy!
A torbie cat named Lizzy sleeping on the back of a sofa with eyes closed in bliss. She's positioned with her paw making it look like she's hugging the couch. The couch is red and behind it you can see a door and some hats and umbrellas on hooks.

this is today's Supreme Court oral argument on the Voting Rights Act in a nutshell
chadstanton.blacksky.app
This is the result of a lot of people pretending racism is one of the greatest taboos in our culture while failing to address racism substantively. People are appalled by the idea of being called racist while being totally committed to upholding racism throughout society.

Every time a Democrat gets caught on tape saying like “Some Trump voters are racist” we have a national scandal and JD Vance demands an entirely new kind of apology and meanwhile every Republican group chat is like “Good morning fellow SS members. Who’s ready to respect Hitler today?”

Yea, idk I remember saying something about how a lot of people's bar for racism is overt racism it makes a lot of problems invisible. If you're not actively on the receiving end, sure it's invisible and it seems like times were better when you were not actively confronted to take a look at yourself

I don’t know how to approach “Republicans weren’t racist in the early aughts” as someone who went to Texas during the early aughts and had to debate whether or not Black students were “stealing” people’s spots in class.

You don't have to shop for Black Friday.
You don't have to shop on Prime day.
You don't have to spend what you usually spend on Christmas.
You don't have to let those subscriptions you barely use renew.

If you can't make a statement anywhere else, you can make your voice heard with your $$.

There is this whole concept called intersectionality that explains this well, but I guess it was too woke or something.

Apparently, the official GOP response to the leaked Young Republican chats is “come on, it’s not a big deal that these guys are using racial slurs and praising Hitler, that’s totally normal” and, uh, that sorta raises more questions?

Roberts is saying that the court's own precedent from a couple of years ago, where it ruled that Alabama had to draw racial fair maps, doesn't apply to this (identical) case, essentially because the Alabama case was poorly argued.
It's a terrible argument, but the hill Roberts is gonna die on.

Q: This has been reported for a while. Cory Mills was accused of beating a girlfriend in his DC apt. Are you concerned about these allegations?

JOHNSON: You have to ask Rep. Mills about that. He's been a faithful colleague. I don't know the details. Let's talk about things that are really serious

The data I'm working with today is so dated that I have to laugh.

One person is marked as being a minor with a guardian, but the "child" is named Nancy, and her guardian is listed as Mrs. Initials Lastname.

Surely, Nancy is not just grown but collecting Social Security by now.

The 14th and 15th Amendments of the Constitution were expressly crafted to grant Black people equal rights as citizens in a democratic society

The Supreme Court is preparing to use those very Amendments to deny those rights instead

“What began seemingly as a putative crackdown on so-called ‘criminal’ immigrants, the ‘worst of the worst,’ has revealed itself to be exactly what it is: a brazen attempt to instill fear in and demand obedience of all Americans.”
What's unfolding in cities is 'terrifying escalation' of what we saw in 1968 Chicago
The action of federal government agents at Donald Trump’s direction demonstrates all too clearly that what his administration really wants is to intimidate American cities.
