I think businesses asking people to rate every single experience has furthered this damage. We shouldn't have this many opinions about this many things, and we certainly shouldn't expect other busy people to care if we do.

few ideas have damaged the average psyche more than ‘the customer is always right.’ it should be a little bit humiliating, being a customer. you should walk into any service transaction knowing that the other person, and not you, is in control over whether you get your treats

I get a survey asking me about my experience every single time I fly, go to the movie theater, order something online, and even while paying my bill at a restaurant and I'm still sitting there.

Does attempting to survey customers after every single transaction really lead to higher quality data?

I think there's something to this, but it's more about the frequency business do this than the asking. Businesses have long researched customer satisfaction. But instead of interviewing a random sample, they now ask every customer to fill out a survey after every single business transaction.

Another thing that strikes me is: if extreme overvalued beliefs are so common about gender, wouldn’t we expect them among non-murderers about various other things? For Genspect, the answer appears to be no.

This is not new ground for Alliance Defending Freedom. The longitudinal study they regularly cite to allege most trans kids eventually detransition did not actually find that. ADF simply recategorized every kid-now-adult who stopped responding to the researcher’s questionnaire as a “detransitioner.”

As a general rule I always assume the other side in a campaign is smart and they do what they do for a good strategic reason. But making the signature issue of your campaign something that only 4% of voters say is their top issue has to have limited returns.
