like, man, in 2017 you could at least make sense by saying "it sucks how people are mean to me when i say somethiing well-meaning but wrong, it's like there's a thought police" but it's 2025 the president ha been calling trans ideology domestic terror read the room
happyfunnysillydog.bsky.social
i feel like "the thought-police" as an insult against leftists kind of lost its luster after the actual government run police started beating up people in broad daylight for expressing leftist views

Ratio me. Please. It's a badge of honor. If you don't like a link, go follow some chicken-heart who needs the approval of the thought-police. Caitlin Flanagan of @theatlantic.com is a tremendous writer and this piece is an excellent read. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

i think it is fair to request a statement from @jay.bsky.team on TRANS PEOPLE and where we fit in on @bsky.app.

i think as a transgender journalist, it's acceptable and makes sense for me to ask this

and so, the question, am i not a person as a trans girl and do i not deserve to feel safe here?

like. we choose what to exaggerate and what to render faitfhully in our political cartoons, don't we?

"well what are the Democrats supposed to do" I don't know! They're supposed to know! I'm not the one who sought and obtained a political position that would require me to know what to do when the ruling party attempts to install the President as a dictator!

a prize he didn't deserve because he was the president of a country at war at the time and the president of a country operating a torture prison on illegally occupied foreign soil.

trump deserves one just as much as he did

Beckett would be so pleased. 75 years on and he's still alienating the bourgeoisie. couldn't ask for a better review.

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

One thing that’s funny about how we react to stuff like this is how earnest we are. Workers were as likely to think “census? I’m gonna fuck with this guy” then as now. Taking the piss was not invented in the 20th century

Job occupations, from an 1881 census. Every one of these sounds like something a sorely provoked Captain Haddock would should at someone in times of heavy stress.

look, the fate of ophelia is FAR from the worst thing she did on tloas, but my one of my majors in undergrad was english and on this at least i can see where you'd FIX it

- locked up in a tower
- creating art about love
- longing for the real thing
- falling for a guy very quickly

the only thing they don't have in common is the ending - which would be very "love story" from fearless! and even then, symbolically, taylor swift is "ending" an era by marrying
happyfunnysillydog.bsky.social
when neida teresa said taylor swift is the lady of shalott, not ophelia, i felt SO fucking vindicated. if you want to be a woman locked in a tower who gets saved* by a man THE LADY OF SHALOTT IS RIGHT THERE

*yes the lady of shalott famously does not get saved but idk lancelot is like, there

lol sorry i shouldve checked. idk there are SO many liberal well-meaning-but-kind-of-confused cis women on this website i reached a point where i was like well even if im wasting my time maybe one of em will see this by accident and care. i do also like listening to myself yap though so shrug.

i also like the variety of trans perspectives in kate bornstein's "gender outlaws" (though i disagree with some of them!), or for a really succinct intro, Sylvia Rivera's "Y'All Better Quiet Down" speech, still relevant 50 years later. youtu.be/QZd-o4SNuCM?...

i cannot answer this in 300 characters *particularly* because things are easier for me than for trans women. i highly recommend reading primers on societal transphobia and transmisogyny - julia serano's "whipping girl" is an excellent place to start, +
happyfunnysillydog.bsky.social
i don't think this requires a lot of further back and forth and sorry for taking up so much of your afternoon lol i just meant i do think its important to be mindful of like reading the room re: just asking questions abt transness when so many people are doing that in bad faith rn
