Interpreting Trump's statements for him is journalistic malpractice. He didn't take anything 'off the table'.

Trump merely made another statement that contradicts earlier statements, which merely reduces the meaning of any future statements he'll make.

Very well put by Vlad Vexler.

Controversial take: 50% cacao chocolate is effectively milk chocolate.

Pure chocolate ought to be 70% or more.

The brilliance of Carney's "Sign in the Window" speech was that he was not attacking totalitarianism, but the hypocrisy of liberal democracies. It's about how we pretended to believe the fiction of a rules-based international order because it was convenient—and that time has come to be honest.
“The system’s power comes not from its truth but from everyone’s willingness to perform as if it were true.”

Mark Carney explains how totalitarianism works.

The lesson couldn’t be more clear: do not obey in advance. That is how freedom erodes and dignity disappears.

Classic scheme.

Remember in 2022 when construction workers were lured to Russian Occupied territory then suddenly

It's kinda crazy how we went from 1960/1970s feminism advocating tearing down the very concept of gender roles, to today's world in which gender roles are considered to be so fundamental that if you feel that you do not fit into your assigned gender role, you are called 'gay' or recommended surgery.

Ran into a major snag with Waterfox, that seems to pertain to Firefox as well: hardware acceleration of videos isn't working.

Feature is set to 'on', but I can clearly see in Task Manager that it's all software decoding on the CPU.

Even disabled software fallback in about:config, but no bueno.

Switched yesterday from running Discord in a browser tab to the Discord Messenger application which I wrote about last year: hackaday.com/2025/06/17/h...

Unlike the 1+ GB RAM browser tab or Electron version, it runs in <10 MB of RAM and does everything except video/audio.

Good enough for me.
How Discord Was Ported To Windows 95 And NT 3.1
On the desktop, most people use the official HTML and JavaScript-based client for Discord in either a browser or a still-smells-like-a-browser Electron package. Yet what if there was a way to use a…

The Trump administration's brutality is on graphic display in Minneapolis and its vulgar stupidity in the Greenland fiasco, but just as harmful, though less splashy, is the way they are destroying US science.
This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

Federal Protections for Mexican Gray Wolves Under Attack | Wolf Conservation Center
Mexican gray wolves are the rarest subspecies of gray wolf in North America, with just 286 known to live in the wild in the United States. What braindead UX pattern is Discord using that 'Log In' pushes you into creating a new account, which you have to log out of before you get tipped into the actual log in screen?

Are the Discord developers huffing extra-strength glue?

The last one was a rhetorical question, natch.

Finally got fed up enough with Microsoft Edge to switch to a different browser. Picked Waterfox as it's not Chromium-based, doesn't intend to kill off normal extensions or add 'AI' BS, and generally feels less... corporate.

UI also feels far more familiar, as an old-school NS/Mozilla user.
