I think one of the less important grievances with Weiss currently is there’s no way I can see her fans ever admit that the general public has a much greater grasp of her and her abilities than they ever did. Rudimentary writer and novice thinker. They just admire the ability to gain power.

I think it would be fair to assume that Weiss’ ideology is that freedom is only truly defined by American conservative terms. That’s technically something one could debate.

But the reality is she really is just nothing more than the ID of conservative America: explicitly for sale.
watching the CECOT 60 Minutes segment that CBS suppressed, it’s striking that Weiss specifically called out as unnecessary some of the most rigorous investigative work in the segment, including an explanation of how it was done (by human rights researchers)

here's the 60 minutes cecot video part 1 of 5 - recorded/uploaded by and all credit to @jasonparis.bsky.social

I just reduced background noise, chopped the 14 minutes into 3 minute segments each compressed under 100 mb for bsky's limits, cropped and rotated a few degrees for easier viewing on here

I wrote much less this year than I've written in the past five, so there's not a whole lot to revisit. This piece, though, I still think is probably the best article I've ever written, even if it was a dumb professional move to write it [free to read] www.patreon.com/posts/empero...

If the economic externalities that shaped that pain are allowed to persist, if not outright grow even stronger, I’d argue there’s no strong mechanism for the masses to learn from.
not that the present economic picture is rosy, but i do think that popular culture — and specifically nostalgia bait television — is a big part of the reason that our public memory of the 1970s, 1980s and even 1990s seems to miss the real economic pain that marked each of those decades.

It’s perfectly fair to note that the admin is highlighting what a shitbag Bill Clinton is while hiding how much Trump is. But, it’s also fair to say fuck Bill Clinton for this! Not just being a shithead but also hurting his own political party in the process.

The most obvious reason to dismiss any flavor of nationalism is that this is always the downstream logic of it: that the in group is so unambiguously good that they can only be tainted by the other group.
A) This is racist as hell, Pinocchiogles
B) it was never just about illegal immigration

Objectively, one of the best examples of a person not knowing they don’t actually know much about a topic because they’re too rich.
For all Universal HC/Single Payer/M4A advocates.

What do the biggest, expensive hospital chains do. Do they opt out and only serve the rich ?

Who in the USA gov runs the program?

R U ok with having to see a primary care doc before you can see a specialist ?

A mainline perspective of cultural conservatism is that the world is an incurable place and it’s impossible for it to get better if anyone other than them lives in it. Which of course is just how persecution of others is internally excused.

A predominan viewpoint of reactionaries is that crime is inherently unsolvable; a law of nature. So the idea that they think this would deter crime is wildly stupid, but also, and admittance that they just want to watch people die.

The Eagles have never been a schematically advanced offense in the Sirianni era. its worked (very well) when the entire offense was clicking in unison, but they werent running a McVay or Shanahan offense when it came to complexity. It’s just “we do these things extremely well.”
The Bears defense entered today's game ranked 29th in success rate.

This was the worst performance by any offense against them all season.
