Called my both of my US Senators to express my opinion that they should demand Schumer and Durbin step down from their leadership positions immediately.

You can do the same by dialing the US Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. An operator will connect you directly with your Senator's office.

So....after we turned out at the polls and gave the Democrats HUUUUGE wins, they sell us out??? Schumer and all that joined in this capitulation are without honor. I've been a Dem all my voting life (53 years) but this makes me very angry.

As I said last night on MSNBC as the news broke that eight Senate Democrats were joining the GOP: This must be the end for Chuck Schumer as Senate Democratic leader.

As a long-time canvasser, I concur 1 million percent. This was a great way to send the Dem base the message that their votes don't mean shit.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Murphy called it.

Chris Murphy: "There will be pretty substantial damage to a Dem brand that has been rehabilitated if on the heels of an election in which the people told us to keep fighting, we immediately stop... if we surrender without having gotten anything, I worry it'll be hard to get them back up off the mat"

One of two things is true:

1. Chuck Schumer genuinely felt this is a bad deal, so he voted against it, but he couldn't keep Senate Dems in line because he's a lackluster leader.

OR

2. Chuck Schumer orchestrated the shutdown deal w/ retiring Dems because he's a bad strategist and got rattled.

This deal to reopen the government is fucking disgraceful.

Tens of millions will lose their healthcare. Trump will be emboldened.

This is exactly what’s wrong with Democratic Party leadership and why we need more people in Congress who will actually hold the line.

Dick Durbin suffers from a terminal case of Senate Brain, in which the big prize is a handshake deal with your distinguished colleagues where they'll allow you to hold a meaningless vote that you can then point to with pride to your constituents as they go broke from crushing medical bills.
Durbin said critics of his vote “need to understand how the Senate works”

There are 2 possible scenarios here:

1. You completely lost control of the caucus and they all voted "YES" as a "fuck you" to you.
2. You knew there are enough "YES" votes to pass the bill to offset your "NO" and you're just trying to save face.

In either case - retire bitch.

Absolutely. We voted for better people last Tuesday, so now it’s time to take that momentum and refocus it on compelling Chuck Schumer to step down. We should demand nothing less. He should not have a single moment of peace nor should any of the ACA8. Punish them relentlessly. Make them regret this.

@chrismurphyct.bsky.social @blumenthal.senate.gov

I am your constituent; after multiple failures in leadership and inability to control the Democratic caucus, I am asking for you to call for a vote of new Senate leadership. The Senate Minority Leader and Whip must be removed.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

I’m voting no on the continuing resolution that would double healthcare premiums for 20 million Americans, kick 15 million people off Medicaid & allow 50,000 Americans to die unnecessarily every year.

All to give $1 trillion in tax breaks for billionaires.
