When trans rights are under attack, stand up fight back. #nzpol

They’re not in the photos, but there’s nothing like turning up at a protest and banging into your adult kids.

A list of medical associations who oppose the government’s move to ban puberty blockers for adolescents.

The professionals who spoke at the protest, like those listed, were clear: the govt hasn’t acted on the science, or for the care of adolescents, they’ve acted on bigotry, & lives will be lost.

PATHA has significant concerns about the UK’s PATHWAYS clinical trial protocol. These trials are unethical, dangerous, and won’t even give Simeon Brown the evidence he claims he’s looking for. Aotearoa shouldn’t endorse these trials, and it remains unethical to withhold necessary care.

And I'm sorry if this causes painful self-reflection for powerful men but I simply do not believe that McSkimming was simultaneously spending all day downloading obscene material AND "the best at policing, someone who would take the organisation forward in the right way"

At our most charitable we might (we shouldn't, but we might) grant McSkimming had deep-seated issues with impulse control and a distorted view of sex and relationships

But he *cannot* have been doing any kind of senior leadership job well and *any* organisation with integrity should have seen it

it's fucking horrific that NZF hijacked legislation alongside Nat extremists to harm trans people & WITHIN A WEEK OR SO we have multiple pieces about how Labour is talking to NZF about 2026

alongside Labour REFUSING to make a public statement on puberty blockers, what are people meant to think??!

Serious question. What are the honest arguments for not taxing the rich?

Are there any good arguments for not taxing the rich and their corporations that come from people who are not paid by the rich or owe their careers to wealthy interests?

Yeah, this is a real thing.
I spend so much time verifying everything now from art to cited sources to photos to historical references to citations to quotes to legal and medical information that it's really hard to fathom how much work AI has collectively added to the world, not reduced
Here's the reality this example illustrates:

It's not even just about people blindly trusting what ChatGPT tells them. LLMs are poisoning the entire information ecosystem. You can't even necessarily trust that the citations in a published paper are real (or a search engine's descriptions of them).

Over the years I've spoken on behalf of the nurses union, or as a nurse at countless protests. Today I spoke at the #BlockTheBan protest in Tamaki in response to our government banning puberty blockers for trans kids. Unlike any other protest I've spoken at, this time I was immediately in tears.

Immediately this abstract issue of politicians politicizing trans lives for political gain and interfering with clinical best practice melted into a tangible, immediately present reality with real lives in the firing line, all for political gain and fomenting of hatred and division.

It is not divisive to demand a public statement from NZ Labour party that explicitly says they will do everything in their power to uphold trans peoples human rights

Want to avoid "culture war" or "politicising"? We're well fucking past that. If you support human rights you've got to be explicit

So much to process from this interview so I'm just going to hyperfocus on how Mark Mitchell and Brian Roche are very, very concerned about Andrew Coster "relitigating" things

Oops did your fall guy not understand he was meant to take ALL the blame for the systemic problems you're complicit in
Exclusive: Coster claims Hipkins and Mitchell told about McSkimming
In an interview with Q+A, the former police commissioner spoke for the first time since the damning IPCA report on the McSkimming scandal.

I'm still stuck on this framing by Coster of the whole thing:

"I told him that Jevon had told me that he had an affair. That it was with a much younger woman that went badly wrong, and that email allegations were now flying as a result of it."
