...speaking as a guy who's had a rib cracked via MMA, I really don't think you want that.
1) it hurts bad
2) it is extremely imprecise
3) it continues to hurt for weeks and they won't give you strong drugs
4) the ER doctor will look at you like you're an idiot, and
5) it does not change your waist.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

I honestly believe the human brain's pattern-matching & categorizing nature makes it very hard for us to deal with "What if someone says some very GOID things, but also very BAD ones?"

...and you wind up with inane comments on climate being cited b/c the speaker has a Nobel in an unrelated field.

You should be concerned about the rate of authors leaving publishing. Especially from marginalized communities. This year I have seen so many authors just pack it up and go. And it's only getting worse.
