This is a take no one asked for, but the amount I prefer the Wall St Journal to NYT or WaPo right now is off the charts

They know who they are and they're open about where they come from. Their journalism is rock-solid. Their op/ed section is nuclear waste, but it's easy to simply avoid it

ICE clearly does not, in totality, fear observation. When you stand by and dutifully observe the horror they enact, all that is proven is that you will watch as people are brutalized and do nothing aside from shout or film. Your deference to observation fuels the expansion of this horror.

Writing up my thoughts on this into a long piece. The one thing that worries me is that large scale protests in competitive authoritarian regimes often precede authoritarian consolidation rather than a reversal of autocracy. Russia, Hungary, Turkey also saw large protests before backsliding further.

A few months ago, I pointed out that part of the reason for ICE employees covering their faces, was that some of them were likely government contractors and not law enforcement, and so has no legal authority to detain.

People that know nothing about criminal justice reform yelled at me.🤷🏿‍♂️
