Since Louis CK is in the news again, it's worth restating that he never gave an honest accounting of his sexual misconduct—his initial "apology" and his subsequent statements have been contradicted by the testimony of his victims, and contained elisions and gaps intended to exonerate him.

A righteous and appropriate ratio for an absolute dogshit story lede. He used his fame and influence to sexually harass multiple women, and you do not have to hand it to him.

This probably explains why I love bookstores so much, even beyond enjoying reading
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

Going to pester all of my friends and family with kids about this important point for years to come
Children’s books in particular should be weird and challenging and inappropriate. All the best ones are.

I didn’t want to overreact, and took time to read this. Having done so, I’m adding Northwestern to the list of places I won’t visit or speak. The concessions re: international students and gender-affirming care are not merely symbolic.
Here’s the text of the Northwestern settlement with the DoJ, which includes a $75 million financial component / payoff (cc @profmarkovic.bsky.social):

It's troubling that I saw this skeet before the article it was commenting on and didn't know what action by the current administration it was referring to—because there were too many possible options
Everyone involved in this should be charged as a mass murderer.

If they ever get around to building this thing, it should be bulldozed on Day 1 of a new administration. No messing around, no hemming and hawing about procedure or costs. Order heavy equipment in and start knocking it down immediately, as surely as an overthrown tyrant's statues would be torn down.

To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.

It is hard but necessary to bring up murder charges on Hegseth and other top level officials who did this.
