One way that the reaction to Rob Reiner's murder mirrors Charlie Kirk's is that the best way to eulogize each of them is to quote their words, and in both cases, doing so pisses off conservatives.
Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

#MovieChallenge 2025 week 50: It (2017)

I'm reliably informed that Welcome to Derry is actually worthwhile so I rewatched these in preparation. It's nicely done. Strong cast. Super gross when it needs to be. He doesn't sound that much like Winnie-the-Pooh. Very Stephen King.

In my headcanon, the actual film doesn't exist, and this trailer is just a phenomenal standalone shitpost.
First trailer for Andy Serkis’ ‘ANIMAL FARM’ has dropped.

In theaters May 1.

#MovieChallenge 2025 week 49: The Ballad of Wallis Island (2025)

Tim Key and Tom Basden are so good at writing for themselves/each other, which is a large part of why this works as well as it does. It's very sweet, the songs are lovely, and it avoids being as cliché or trite as it could be.

The man leaned toward the officer like wheatgrass in a blustery spring. His arms stretched downward, toward the soil, as if pulling at the firmament of the nation itself.

Finally from his lips, a plaintive query: "What are thoooooose?"

I put it to you that Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” is not merely the worst Christmas song but is also in fact the worst song in the history of recorded sound.

you are now realizing how much she was doing for you and instead of just thanking her you’ve decided it’s about the decline of civilization
Because you're an adult you fucking muppet. You gotta pay the magic forward.

you gotta remember that from a conservative perspective, these programs are a failure. they don't want to reduce homelessness, they want to punish homeless people. they'd pay 10x as much for that happily
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

#MovieChallenge 2025 week 48: Christine (1983)

Maybe I'm just prejudiced, but I'd imagined the Stephen King murder car film would be more cheap and trashy and low-rent. I mean, it's still not great, but smarter and more thoughtful than I'd expected.
