When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.

if it's a normal animal i'm sick of it being cgi in big-budget films, at least use cgi for only stunts or editing the source footage for specificity, but if the action on screen is 'deer eating berries'..... you have the money pay for a real deer for at least some of it

Met a 40yo gallery-ist at a party in SF. We spent most of the party talking abt the art world, but mostly what she talked abt was how most of her life now is telling AI “artists” that they are not artists, she won’t sell their “work” in her gallery, & that “prompt writer” isn’t an artistic medium.

truly amazing how many different professions there are where everyone’s newest persistent headache is “AI zealots high on their own supply”
making a local login and removing all the built in advertising was such a good call, just under a month in and i am enjoying the refresh to minimal clutter! and i did it no downloads needed because any changes to the device i wanted to verify step by step.
stages of setting up my new laptop: 1. regret. 2. hack off every bit of bloatware and ai i can manage 3. rediscover whimsy as i customise it 4. hope it doesn't implode due to planned obsolescence in a year

whenever I feel down about my art I just make myself remember when I struggled super hard with even just drawing a head shape, and that exceeding my current skill level was unimaginable, but now I can draw F. Murray Abraham by looking at a photo of him and it was just fun. never kill yourself

They had it on at the gallery in conjunction with Rachel Caballero's "The Patchwork Portal" exhibit, which is themed around The Patchwork Girl of Oz, and features gorgeous handmade artworks, as well as craft tables where you can make a hand-sewn patch to add to a dress for Scraps. Gorgeous.

wow, generative ai, technology so advanced it's set us back to before photography when the objectivity of reproducing reality with photosensitive chemical reactions wasn't possible. congratulations on rendering photos and videos on the same level of reliability as illustration. great job

Funny animal videos no longer being trustworthy just fucking sucks all around. I love the wonder of animal behavior and what it says about the experience of being alive. It's because it happened in reality that it's so fun. It's not fun if it was just made up. There's no wonder there.
