However the core of modern Trek failing is, thriller or not, they need better philosophical science fiction and speculative science fiction writers. They took the worst of TOS, the boring "morality play," and trashed the best of TOS, the thought provoking hypothetical scenario.

Frankly I think Trek is TOO juiced on utopian scifi nostalgia and I'd fucking kill for some GOOD sci fi thriller flavor. People forgot how many TOS eps were thrillers. Return of The Archons... fuck, the salt vampire ep... The Doomsday Machine... The Conscience Of The King...

Every Star Trek series gets progressively worse because they keep forgetting the core premise of the franchise. It's supposed to be a utopian future based around science and exploration, not some gritty action thriller.

Which is why I agree and why I don't think there are nearly enough funny shovel talks with him and AOS Jim... I need them on a shuttle ride together for 7hrs and the first 5 are passed in silence, 1 passed in passive aggressive discussion of Spock, and the last hour they play chess together amiably.

AOS Sarek is so funny because what we see of him during the Spock childhood scene vs what we see of TOS Sarek during Spock's childhood (in the 70s animated series episode) is so different. 2009 Sarek is a mildly better father imo.

rewatching Trek 2009 for clipping purposes and I've finally got handle on this Spock and Kirk's introduction to each other, its always been so weird to me but I finally get it, their arc through the film is Spock learning that he needs to sub to be happy and Jim learning how 2 b a better dom-
