Interesting read. Sounds like learning Japanese is a performative activity for this group as well. No one cares about metrics more than other dudes in the subreddit.
A study on learners in predominantly female spaces would be an interesting follow-up, though I'm not sure where you'd get the data...

AI automation =/= AI generation. the scripts to automatically transcribe voice to text or whether your party character prioritizes Attack or Defense isn't the same as algorithms generating randomized results out of an amalgamation of existing data. conflating them is intentionally misleading.

re: blogs, bear looks like a a cute alternative but I don't know if I'd put anything too fannish on there. Not comfortable with it in that way when it has a discovery page.
