Best advice I ever got about caramelizing onions was from Ina Garten: turn your back on them.
fun fact: if a recipe tells you it will take 8 to 10 minutes to caramelize onions, they're a lying-ass bitch

WHAT
'Escalate,' as in "tensions escalate," comes from the word 'escalator.'

It first appeared in print in 1944.

'Escalator' originated as a trademarked term for the Otis Elevator Company's moving staircase and was demonstrated at the Paris Exposition in 1900.

Best TikTok thing going is the two dudes trying food from every country without leaving NYC. If you haven’t seen them yet, it’s incredible. My favorite so far is last week’s. Legit got me emotional.

I joked a while back about buying shoes from orthofeet.com after I turned 45, but I've been having a harder and harder time finding shoes that fit, so I decided to try a pair of their boots. I just received them and they are a revelation! So supportive! So roomy in the toe box! And cute!

I'm trying to write about a lovely man I know in real life and finding it virtually impossible to do without making him sound like a stereotype. Italian-American from New Jersey with the expected accent, only has one eye, smokes cigars, had some trouble with racketeering charges a while back...

This. Read books. Join a choir. Invite your friends over for dinner. Paint a mural on your neighbor's garage with a bunch of kids and use it as a backdrop for the play your other neighbor wrote. Take up knitting. Give a sweater to someone asking for change. Socks too. Plant a garden. Spread beauty.
The most effective way to resist this modern brand of fascism isn't to completely immerse yourself in its propaganda. You're actually helping their message spread. Go and make art or read a book or spend time with offline people. You can't marinate in the horror and emerge unscathed.
