International Lesbian Day, what better time to describe the very strange path I took to realize I am a lesbian.

As a kid, I knew I was “wrong”. Growing up in a small, religious town in Wisconsin in the 90s, I could tell I wasn’t like the boys around me but I wasn’t sure why.

I understand your sentiment, but if things at these protests ever turn towards arrests, the cops and ICE use photos of marginalized folks at the protests as evidence against us. Take a selfie? Fine. Take a bunch of photos of people without their permission? That’s the issue. Also: everyone mask up !

I love these books. I have a photo of Wizard’s last page in my phone; it means that much to me. And Tombs of Atuan was a guidepost for understanding my gender.

But on top of all that, it’s great writing. Prose, plot, storytelling.

Book 4, Tehanu, is such a devastating wonderful novel about aging and agency against fascism. I should re-read it.

And from her sci-fi, Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossessed are two of the best ever written. I feel it in my bones that trans folk who haven’t read her will love her work
