Life goals: to be able to write a note like this to my members and not immediately get fired
Here's a note I sent to our members about what we did with their money, and why we expect the Onion to outgrow the Washington Post.

We keep doing weird, hard shit — taunting ICE, yelling at Congress for not taunting ICE, buying bad websites — when nobody else does.

Our members keep getting papers.

What a great headline

Final thing: Telecommunications revenues stayed stable in Canada, at $69.4 billion in 2024 compared to 69.2 billion in 2023.

Overall, telecomms companies are operating at a 22.9 per cent profit margin and have been at that level for some time.

Also in new data: Drug overdoses in 2023 represented 9.6 percent of avoidable deaths, up from 8.6 in 2020. In real numbers, the number of drug overdose deaths are down from last year, from 7775 in 2022 to 7,650 in 2023.

Details: www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quo...

Still a heartbreaking number.

Data nerds: Stats Can has released revised total population projections for Canada by 2049.

Low end: 43.7M. High end: 56M.

Cool breakdown here: www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/t...

Also: Once again, someone tell StatsCan to get on BlueSky already

Just discovered that my neighbourhood post office has been permanently closed and I DO NOT CARE FOR THIS.

Now I have to go to Polo Park (not gonna do that, Geez) or Portage and Moray. Ugh.

Why is Rogers sending me Black Friday cell phone deals that are worse than my current deal with Fido... Which is also owned by Rogers?

Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

It’d be exciting to think that Bluesky has people pretending to be American like Twitter but I honestly don’t think they could talk about Star Trek Deep Space 9 the way it’s expected here without having watched all the episodes a dozen times

Data centres.... in spaaaaaaace

I dunno, I feel like we have enough space junk orbiting the planet
It is not easy to build data centers here on Earth. There is not enough capacity on our energy grid to power everything. That may get worse as people demand more and more AI. So a couple companies, including Google, have now announced that they are exploring building data centers in space.

This is an INSANE story that every editor and journalist should read.
A few months ago @thelocal.to got a promising pitch from a writer with bylines in whole bunch of reputable publications—The Cut, The Guardian, Dwell, Architectural Digest, etc. Then I started investigating. Here's a story about fabulists in journalism's AI slop era. thelocal.to/investigatin...
Investigating a Possible Scammer in Journalism’s AI Era | The Local
A suspicious pitch from a freelancer led editor Nicholas Hune-Brown to dig into their past work. By the end, four publications, including The Guardian and Dwell, had removed articles from their sites.

Starting to think I should run for mayor here. Seems to be a wave of progressives being elected down south.
After much deliberation and a grueling interview process, I’m pleased to announce that I’ve accepted a new job and will not need any financial support from my parents to cover the high costs of childcare going forward. #AmericanDream #ThisIsYourCity
