It was two years ago that I finished the English subs for the French dub of THE BIG O, an absolute first for me and for THE BIG O. Uploaded to the Internet Archive for streaming and preservation!

I'll go against my own grain and boost the Ocean Futari Wa Pretty Cure dub. It's not just genuinely warm and cute but it makes Nagisa nowhere near as much an annoying doofus and adds levity through the delivery that's nowhere in the JP

This is how the French dub of The Big O got English subtitles for the first time in history--and the license holder of the French version didn't even do that. Neither did the previous license holder.
The thing about fansubs is regardless of anything else that may be going on, ultimately fansubs are made by someone who *really cares about what they're making*. That actually was true at one time at Crunchyroll. It is not true now.

We got gen-AI dubs from Amazon and gen-AI subs from Crunchyroll, but if you torrent a fansub that real people worked to translate, code, and stylize, you're the piece of shit.
