First time, an ox. Had a mask, but the elastic holding it on snapped as the play started, so I held it in place with my hand, thus making me a three-legged ox.

Then, the narrator. In a duffel coat and woolly hat "because that's what narrators wear".

I don't recall ever being in a school nativity.
But, my youngest son was a sprout in his🤣. I made the costume out of green felt.
Redeemed by middle son who was Joseph in his nativity!!

Usually a shepherd but King Herod one time. Also they'd use fancy cologne jars for the wise men's gifts. Which the other kids would keep waving open in front of me because it made me nauseous.
So - did you take part in a nativity play at school and if so, what part did you play?

I got the part of the frankincense guy - I was the only child in the class who could pronounce the word ...!
Nativity plays have been a much-loved part of the school year in infant and junior schools across the UK for many years. These performances brought the Christmas story to life with a mix of earnestness and unintentional comedy. Classrooms buzzed with excitement as tea towels and

Angel. Our teacher had made beautiful cardboard angel wings, with delicately painted, pastel coloured feathers. I wanted the blue wings. I got the yellow ones. Still not over it!

Always the narrator. Took a role that didn’t need memorising even then…

all the girls who didnt have specific roles were supposed to be angels and all the boys who didnt have specific roles were supposed to be shepherds. i begged my parents and my teacher to let me be an angel, and they let me.

but there were no signs.

Once played Mary (aged 3) opposite a very shy Joseph whose beard kept slipping from his chin. After that, always the narrator, on account of my 'nice big voice' - although I was told off for learning my lines instead of reading them from the storybook I had to hold!

I was a shepherd/narrator, by virtue of being one of the better readers in the class.

I was Sheepherd #1. We did two shows in one day. I had a little song number in the first one. They asked me to 'perhaps just hum it' for the second one.

Along with a group of about 10 other lads, I was a 'follower' of Pontius Pilate. No lines, just followed him on and off stage when he gave little speeches. Absolute nothing role.
