Since we’d gotten together, the biggest issues Valeria and I had to work on were pretty straightforward. Once, I got a bit domineering when I protested she was running errands alone in the sketchy part of town via the bus. One weekend that I had off from baseball, she sprung an all-day date on me when I needed to use that time to chill and catch up on laundry.

He simply kept his weapon aimed at Caleb, making sure he didn’t step out of line. The man leaned against the hood of their SUV, occasionally changing pistol hands. Could he shoot well with his less dominant hand? They were at close range. Chances were he could shoot well enough. #wipsnips

“Just because your father is a commander, doesn’t mean you get free-reign here, Adler.” The smug idiot, I think his name is Elias, sets the lock code on the door so I’m trapped inside. “Pretty sure that’s exactly what it means,” I challenge, flopping lazily down on the bed, my arms resting comfortably behind my head. “Nighty-night, soldier.” The menacing glare he shoots my way doesn’t phase me one bit. He’s just a lackey doing the grunt work for the general. She still has the watch. Something about that fact makes my chest ache, and I rub my fist over it, but the feeling lingers. Groaning, I run a hand through my hair, glad they let me shower before dear old dad arrived. I’d give anything for a toothbrush. I wanted to kiss her so badly it hurt—still do. It took everything in my power not to press her up against the door, to let that idiot in her room know that I have every intention of convincing her to be mine. Because I meant what I said: a world without Annora isn’t a world I want to live in. A cold shower would work wonders right now—my thoughts spiraling out of control. Tomorrow can’t come soon enough.
