this has also been my experience in giving talks and teaching — folks over-focus on tools and get overwhelmed. it helps to understand how to set yourself up for success psychologically and set up your personalized workflows based on that

Stuff like this is small but important. When I used to give talks at NAD in Montreal, I rarely talked about tools or process for making art. It was always focused on the psychological and emotional aspects of being an artist and how that applies to working in a studio, staying healthy, etc.

This advice is nothing new to a lot of folks, but may help some artists. If you're struggling to get into the flow for your project, start with the smallest tasks. Tiny fixes you need to do, setting up a scene, etc. For me, the flow starts after 20-40 minutes of working; so filling that time with

For me (with ADHD) it really helps if these tasks are also very well defined. ”Setting up a scene” is too abstract for my brain to get started on while something like ”set up the shader for the concrete floor” in the scene works better.

buffalo is not For Me in the sense that living there just doesn't fit my goals or my lifestyle but i do have a lot of pride in having been raised there and a lot of nostalgic attachment to the place. i wanna see it thrive!

the galleria literally had giant signs up up to welcome canadians back after the COVID restrictions lifted. border crossings are down as it is considering the [gestures to the government] and i would just hate to see my hometowm impacted Again!

buffalo's a (canadian) border town so when i say this i don't just mean 'oh locals will stop going to games.' canadians come down to watch the leafs when they roll through bc toronto games are prohibitively expensive. that means they'll also eat/drink locally or stop by the galleria too

i know everyone makes jokes about the sabres leaving buffalo but i just look at that and get Sad because like. that would have. real economic impact on a city that's been working hard at building up and recovering for the past decade. the sabres need to stay. but god they cannot keep doing this.

i have been using spotify since it launched and the last. 5 years or so it's been a completely sub par experience that i have continued to pay for out of habit. the CEO investing in AI military tech was just kind of salt in the wound.

fwiw i switched from spotify to tidal (+ antennapod for podcasts) and all told it was like a twenty minute process. tidal's also slightly cheaper and pays its artists more per play than spotify. there's literally a tool that ported all my playlists over in like 5 minutes
