I don’t know how to approach “Republicans weren’t racist in the early aughts” as someone who went to Texas during the early aughts and had to debate whether or not Black students were “stealing” people’s spots in class.

There's a line of evolution of thought that goes from the very young and naive notion that this is just police doing their jobs, to the mature realization that this is the police abusing their authority by forcing people to jump through imaginary hoops.
