Maybe we should all apply and then wash out of the academy.
Omg, this detail from CNN about the ICE hiring snafu is wild. This seems like an HR 101 level thing to get right.

They turned a hiring bonus into something much closer to an application bonus.

Seems like a great way to burn a ton of cash. Also? Here’s some waste for sure!

Stephen Miller on Fox threatens to arrest JB Pritzker for "seditious conspiracy" and says, "to all ICE officers: you have federal immunity in the conduct of your duties. And anybody who lays a hand on you or tries to stop or obstruct you is committing a felony."

Saying ICE officers have blanket “federal immunity” and implying the immediate, summary arrest of a governor for “seditious conspiracy” is legally simple or automatic is a lie. Assaulting or obstructing federal officers can be a federal felony, but immunity and prosecution law are more limited

and procedural than Miller’s rhetoric suggests; arresting or prosecuting a sitting governor for seditious conspiracy would require a full federal investigation and proof of the statute’s elements — it’s not an offhand executive pronouncement.

ICE doesn’t have blanket federal immunity, they cannot legally arrest a governor or local police simply for trying to enforce state law against them. They have limited immunity only when acting (lawfully) within their duties. ICE has no authority over state officials; disputes go through the courts.

Obstructing or assaulting ice can be a felony. only if it’s an unlawful assault or obstruction of a lawful federal action. The agents would have to prove that their activity was on the up and up. The burden of proof is on them not to state.

ICE can be prosecuted under state law. They can be prosecuted if they commit crimes outside their authorized duties. Making death threats to people filming them. Assaulting US citizens. Masked vigilanteeism. Ignoring due process. Driving inebriated. Sexual assault. All illegal things they have done.

It’s actually morally correct to ensure this kind of person can never do this again in any capacity.

What is the scariest thing to talk about on BlueSky? I think Bernie slipped to third but I’m torn between Israel and AI for first place.

Trans people are scariest if you're slightly different trans people, but we have to grade holistically to be fair.

I can’t believe how everything in American politics gets stupider and stupider every week

- Trump annihilates the east wing
-says the government should pay him millions of dollars
-decides to bail out Argentina for billions of dollars

The Democratic Party is spineless.

It’s damn near a year after the party got blown out by the Republicans and the party still can’t even commit to Medicare for All, despite over 80% of Democratic voters supporting it.

In fact, the party still doesn’t have a platform!

imo the old notion of "good taste" died with george plimpton in september 2003. no one of his background is culturally or politically relevant anymore. and those who come from that lineage basically wear vineyard vines and peter millar today, neither of which have that old feel

Prices are up 3.3% just since March of this year. For a category that for 20 years saw net deflation outside of the pandemic. This is a demonstration of the impact of tariffs.
