Can a nation organized and governed such as ours endure? A whole world looks to see what we will do. We cannot fail their trust. We cannot fail to try.

Chris Murphy: "There's a lot of history that has taken place in the East Wing & it was just destroyed without any conversation in the public, without any consent of Congress. It's absolutely illegal. That visual is powerful b/c you're watching destruction of the rule of law as those walls come down"

It really sucks to realize that Bernie Sanders would have made a terrible president, because despite having a lot of integrity himself, he is an abysmal judge of character. Just fuckup after fuckup with the candidates who only get traction from his endorsement. His appointees would have been awful.

"We should consider why Platner speaks to people. People don't want candidates from central casting anymore. They want people who look and sound like them. Who acknowledge the pain of getting by day to day. It so happens this one is ill-prepared and has a serious problem."

That took 20 seconds.
you know it is not at all difficult to acknowledge the legitimate concerns about the tattoo and still make a case for the candidate. but this would require maturity, a perspective outside ones own and a willingness to lose a little face, which means it won’t happen.

Or you do the social media ads from "The Committee to Restore American Greatness" - "Thank you, President Trump, for improving our White House!" And the photos are all over that.

"Trump is tearing down the White House." Hit that. It's not exactly true, but it's not lie. You have the photos. Poll it. The poll is not the point, of course.

Since John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh are so desperate for a time limit on race-conscious remedies to systemic racism and they're itching to sunset the Voting Rights Act, well I give my permission. They can do it—in the year 2299.

Until then, shut the hell up.

Supreme Court Conservatives Are Tired of Hearing About Racism. Guess What? Me Too.
Will the Supreme Court and Chief Justice John Roberts finally completely gut the Voting Rights Act in Louisiana v. Callais?

I know two different people who got drunken tattoos of Yosemite Sam and zero people who got drunken tattoos of Nazi symbols so I guess I got that going for me.

Especially as a Jew, "has no problem with someone sporting a Nazi tattoo" is one of those little facts about someone that you mentally file away for whenever you encounter them in the future.

We are being erased in real time, our history, the laws created to protect our status as citizens. Emboldened white supremacists disparage us openly & on TV.

That too feels like another part of it! They already made their choice so how dare other people make different ones

They just straight up resent the idea that a literal Nazi tattoo can be a dealbreaker for someone whose aesthetic they like

Plus if other people are drawing a line in the sand, they must be looking sideways at the Nazi tat defenders for their lack of standards and moral compass. That too is no good
The Democratic primary in this race will be held fully eight months from now in June 2026, there are nine active Democratic candidates, and there could be more! Even the filing deadline is still months away (March 15, I believe). I don’t get the PSA crew adopting a bunker mentality this early.

If you have to say you're a "thought leader," you aren't.
Yes, that’s fine. His claim that he didn’t know it was bad until yesterday is what I’m disputing. He knew what it was called 13 years ago, at least. He’s had decades to get rid of it, and never said he would do so until YESTERDAY.

Nazi tat affair useful because anyone doing bizarre prevarications atm re how its totally normal to have a Nazi tattoo, good actually, not a big deal that'd matter in an election, if anything its cringe you care, etc etc, has revealed you never need to take their politics opinions seriously again.

And after weeks of every right wing influencer with a private paramilitary trying to make the emails a thing. Sad.
There’s reporting that he discussed the tattoo with folks in 2012 and referred to it as his totenkopf. So, he knew it’s German name, but not its meaning, more than a decade ago? Hmmm…
I’m almost 59. I can remember some classmates having passing interests in Nazi WWII stuff, usually because of a movie or TV show, but that was when we were 10, in 1976. In the intervening 49 years, the only Nazi I’ve encountered was Peter Thiel, in college.
